Re: V is such garbage
I've been enjoying it but I'm confused by your "garbage" comment. In fact the "they've come for our genes to accelerate their evolution" is a wee bit more believable of a premise than "they've come for our water." Not to imply that the original miniseries wasn't awesome anyway.

Re: V is such garbage
I have watched the first three episode but after those I couldn't stand the ridiculous plotlines any more. Morena Baccarin is the only reason I might watch another episode.

After almost 2 seasons they finally say what the hell they are here for, plus the acting is so bad...so so bad, lol.

I didn't know that. I haven't seen any of the remake/reboot/rehash, but... fuck.
Actually, I'm a wee bit dubious of the "wee bit more believable" bit. Transferring genes between different biochemistries?
Fuck.

Re: V is such garbage
Did they also come for Diesel technology to accelerate their technological evolution? Gene splicing isn't evolution, its gene splicing. Is this some kind of 'Lizards are still furthur down the evolutionary track than mammals' kind of explanation?
Also, if all they need is our DNA, then why the big show, why not just rob medical facilities or even just ask for it outright.

Behind the scenes interviews have stated that they're drawing inspiration from alien abduction folklore. Anyway, apparently they require these breeding centers that need to built (which would raise questions otherwise without the big showing) and there were specific hereditary lines they needed the genes from.Ampoliros wrote:Did they also come for Diesel technology to accelerate their technological evolution? But... but...
Maybe they're actually descendants of an intelligent race of Terran dinosaurs that did make it into space and escape the asteroid!
Terran origin, DNA, same basic biochem.
Otherwise... forget it.
There's no reason to think that the DNA-equivalent of alien species would be compatible enough with Terran/human DNA to permit splicing. Or that "genes" would function in the different biochemistry of alien cells in the same way.
It's STOOOPID. Period.

Science fiction has been making the same general mistake for ages. Star Trek, anyone?

True, and they've had various sounds echoing through the vacuum of outer space as well: doesn't make it right or any more plausible.
Just shows how ignorant or accepting of outright error science-fiction fans can be.
In the latter case, the motivation is probably often the same one that lies behind "WHO CARES if it's shitty writing with stupid, dumbed-down plots? It's more DUNE to read!!!"
(And IIRC, on Enterprise [which was generally abysmal] they tried to retcon the Human-Vulcan incompatibility and how hybrids like Spok were possible with some flimflam about Doctor Flox (sp?) coming up with a special enzyme, blah blah. So some people are aware of the problems, which is somewhat encouraging!)

Speaking of Star Trek, I think that an episode of Voyager had that plot. Think I read a story that had that also.SandChigger wrote:But... but...![]()

Ahp, I saw that one, too. (Thanks for the episode title, I'm assuming, ErasOmnius.)Omphalos wrote:Speaking of Star Trek, I think that an episode of Voyager had that plot. Think I read a story that had that also.
I much preferred the one where Janeway and Chakotay get time-slipped or evo-warped (or whatever the fuck) and evolve into some kind of giant sex-craved salamander thangs.

Okay I apologize for knowing this, but it was Paris and Janeway, not Chakotay. I blame it on my folks not having cable.
