New guy!
Hey guys, SandChigger lead my to this site from Twitter. I'm a huge fan of the Movie, and the mini-series both, and I'm think it's about time I start reading the Book. So I joined this forum, because, if reading the book is like watching the movie, it helps to have a few friends to discuss it with...

Welcome Home!
If you take the move and multiply it with the series you are still nowhere close as to how wonderful the books are. Reading Dune and the sequels has been a huge influence on my life. A truly HUGE influence.

Hello!
You won't go wanting for subjects to discuss in the books.
That's one of the great things about them.

Welcome. I think the differences between the Lynch version and the book will shock you at first, but if you're like I was for that first read you'll be having your mind blown the whole time!

I'd have liked to see the film before reading the books, just to experience that feeling of bafflement one must ... feel when confronted to Lynch's approach of an already complex plot.

Re: New guy!
I think my main points of confusion when reading Dune the first time (I'd seen the Lynch version, but not for many years so at least it was a very foggy recollection) was waiting for sound guns to show up, and expecting the Harkonnen to be all diseased and messed up.

I still think that my first time through the series was the best. I devoured those books. I'd never read so much in so little time before that. It really opened my eyes. You're in for quite an experience.

Re: New guy!
I wish I could get that experience back for Dune itself. My rereads of the other books have been closer to the original experience, but that first book somehow lost a little magic for me. I blamed the KJA books at the time, so I'll have to try again in a couple years, I find the negative influence of those books fading with time now that I've stopped reading them.

(belated) Greetings and Salutations! This is the place to come for discussion, that's for sure - lots of great people and great resources RE Dune here.
