Re: Submission Postings: Please read!
I assume it's Dune-related fan fiction, as opposed to general sci-fi fan fiction? Or does anything go?

Re: Submission Postings: Please read!
as one of The Judges, I cannot be bothered to re-read the Rules of Submission;
when is the deadline for entries ?
if the pace doesn't pick up, it may need to be extended thru Christmas,
and Winners announced on the New Year ....
I demand entries .... get your shit together, people ...
the two submissions to date are excellent examples - simple small scenes,
POV & "inner monologue", one of a major character, one of a minor character ...
also, I'd like to see someone try their hand at an "action" scene - retell the fights
of Paul & Jamis, Paul & Feyd, Feyd & the gladiator ... I believe we can prove here
that rank amateurs and fledgling writers can do better than Spanky .... (I also propose
sending the best entries, if not all, to someone at TOR with a "Look here, dickwad ..."
subject line ....)

I'm also working on an entry and because I have a short vacation it might be finished fairly soon too.

Cool.
There was someone in one of the Dune groups over on Facebook who said he might write something as well.

I was "brainstorming" lastnight...

Paul of Dune was so bad it gave me a seizure that dislocated both of my shoulders and prolapsed my anus.

Not entirely certain on mine, but writing "songs" and getting the tone right is kinda hard.Freakzilla wrote:I was "brainstorming" lastnight...

Should've kept your treatise on writing for this, then posted it as an in-universe text by Irulan.Robspierre wrote:SandRider wrote:as one of The Judges, I cannot be bothered to re-read the Rules of Submission;

I wish I had participated in this but I've been on a hiatus from fiction-writing for a long time now... Been focusing on editorials, articles, and other work for websites. Still, feels like a Dune fanfic would have been a more enjoyable experience.

Re: Submission Postings: Please read!
I'm thinking this should be atleast a twice yearly event ... I think I've got 'til what, Thanksgiving? to render
my Judgements on the Submissions ... by then, there should be another Contest gearing up ... deadline
in April or something ....
also, Chig & Omph and the other OverLords of this endeavour, I'm thinking of posting my comments,
as I just did on #5 (couldn't help that, me likee storee) I'm wondering if, as one of The Judges,
I should wait until after the deadline, so as to not give tips & hints of my personal tastes to those
who've not yet submitted their entries ? seems like cheating in a way - f'instance, I did mention I'd
like to see an "action" scene, and mentioned Feyd's Birthday Party specifically ... on the other hand, I
ain't too good at the whole self-control thing, and again, this is just an informal, in-sietch exercise,
for our collective entertainment and enjoyment, and of course to give our Budding Writers a platform ...
(and yes, all of you can credit your official submission to this contest in your Author Bio as "web-published")
(Winner of the First BiAnnual Jacurutu Frank Herbert's Dune Fan Fiction Contest sounds even mo' bettah
than whatever it was Spanky just got ... "Tied for Best ComicStrip Novelization Award from the Greater Boulder
Gardening Club for Men" or somesuch ...)
also, I would encourage all the OutCast to post their opinions on these submissions now, in an attempt
to sway me ... maybe you see something I don't ... alot of times, I need things pointed out to me, and
then I say "well, hell yeah ... that's obvious now ..."
it should go without saying that the author of a submission should refrain from sockpuppeting a 5-star review
of their own piece, but I just said it, so ... besides, Chiggy's got all your names on a list in his lair, and if you
think he wouldn't bust you out publicly here, on his blagh, on the twitting-thing, well, You Don't Know the SandChigger ....

Re: Submission Postings: Please read!
well, alrighty then ...
anyone opposed to me posting my comments as they roll in ?
and also, I don't remember if the identity The Judges was public knowledge or not ...
not a big deal, of course, any of it, y'all know how bad I hate Unnecessary Rules, but I'm
just a featured Rodeo Clown in this here Bull Ride, so I'll certainly abide by any guidelines
y'all want ...
(with the singular exception of those I just flat-out don't agree with, of course ...)
