Phantasm and Dune connection.

I willing to bet that Don Coscrallei who did his Sci-fi/horror/fantasy masterpiece "Phantasm" from 1979 was influenced by the books even with the whole odd world dimension thing and the hand in the box thing.

Mike is shown a small black box and told to put his hand into it. After the box grips his hand, Mike is told not to be afraid and as the panic subsides, the box relaxes its grip. The notion of fear itself as the killer is established and is what propels Mike towards his final confrontation in the film with The Tall Man.

but there is nothing of the sort in Dune though(the Alam al-Mithal is just a msytical place, not a parallel dimension whith magic gateways )

Maybe the oracular visions could be called an "odd dimension" of sorts? After all, the nature of prescience is never explained in the books.

well the stuff with the box and fear is kinda close, but it could be a coincidence, fair enough
