reference - the purpose of sticking a topic is to keep threads with relevant information for newcomers
close to the top and not buried deep in the pile if no new content is added for a time.

LOL.. I asked the same thing in the other thread. It's a bunch of spam, funny spam, but spam nonetheless. There's no relevant information in any of these stickies.

Cunning idea - create a post full of links to the all golden oldies and sticky that instead?

hard to link to posts on other boards that have been deleted ....

this thread is a parody of the other thread .... the other thread is the record of the "official" Dune webpage's
treatment of anti-nuDune opinion - like the thread of deleted 1 star Amazon reviews - quick reference for the new
people to see for themselves how Merritt has behaved in the past.

Not sure what the big deal is.

Both threads (any maybe they could be combined into one) serve as a great look at what a horror show the official Dune forums are. As someone who never goes over there — it's been months since I ever bothered to lurk — I think it's great to be able to check here for the latest bit of inanity; it's like a quick trip through the 9-items-or-less line. They also serve as a permanent record of stuff that is likely to be later deleted forever by ShutUpByron. Like all threads here, they tend to veer off course every once in a while, but that hardly makes them "spam."

But whatever. Sticky them, unsticky them. Delete them, if necessary. Jesus Christ, is it that big of a deal?

Everything on the interwebnets is a big deal. Just remember to GO COMMANDO and everything will be alright.

P.S. I have no idea what I'm talking about. Nothing to see here folks. Just carry on (my wayward son).

Back on topic. Or subtopic, actually: Why Byron Merritt is a moron:

I recently commented here about 'noldo posting something over on DN about the FH materials at Siuslaw library. (Which he may have learned about from Omph's sources lists.) Byron posted that it was his mother who was the one donated the books & materials. Someone called "Cloner" piped in:
Cloner wrote:The public library collection in Oregon is not a "Dune" archive. Its FH's collection of personal books, which may by chance contain Dune items and research sources, but does not focus on Dune. The only "Dune" archive that I am aware of is in Fullerton CA. There's also a Blassingame archive in Oregon, and a Campbell archive in Missouri, where numerous FH-related items can be found.
ByrByr retorted:
That's not entirely true. Having visited the Siuslaw branch several times, I can tell you there are Dune items there, including items from the Lynch film.
Basically affirming what Cloner posted: it may contain Dune items by chance but it's not Dune-focused overall.

The old "alien roads" fiasco made us suspicious, but he really can't read, can he?

I understand she's been puning again, not doing too well. On Death's doorstep, by all accounts. (Hers. No one else cares.) I guess the hysteriaectomy thing didn't go well and she's still a raging paranoid-schizo drama queen. It's so sad when these things happen to the young and energetic.

So thank God she's older than dirt! :P

Particle777 wrote:I'm just happy there was more of Dune to read.

I hope there are more books on the way.

Yes, I've noticed some of the inconsistencies everyone talks about, like the death of Piter de Vries in Kaitain at the end of D:HC. Once I finished it, I started reading the original Dune again and noticed in the first conversation between the Baron and Piter that this mentat didn't die at the hands of a Bene Gesserit reverend mother. However, when I was reading D:HC it did make sense and it was a good way to resolve the character.

To me, the experience of reading these new books has been like reading History: there are different interpretations, different takes, each author is influenced by his/her surroundings, what's known, the subtleties of the political discourses of the time, et al. When I decided to read the prequels, I knew that FH was not around ant this was going to be a whole new approach with his work in mind. I’m happy they did a good job and gave me marvelous hours of dunenjoyment.

I’m looking forward to the books I still have at my disposal (all the legendary times) and haven’t yet read. And when I’m done, I might still do it all over again, as I did years ago with the original series which now has acquired a whole new meaning, like if it was some sort of archeological document. Wonderful!

BTW, I love the many wise epigraphs they gave us, many of them as good as FH's. Duniverse is so wide and rich that there might be countless stories and books to be written. Just keep up the good work.

Oh, and THIS in the Fan-Fic section promises a bit of amusement:
Leto Atreides 2 wrote:Errr.... are there any special rules I should be aware of for this section? Like is there any kind of story content I need to steer clear of to avoid copyright infringement?
Come on, shugah, show us yer shtuff.

SCARY shit in arny's SMELLHOLE thread:
noldo wrote:In Children of Dune, Jessica makes the statement that her Duke would send someone to ". . . the farthest available hellhole." Is it possible that these new books will take place within the duniverse?
Byrdadmin wrote:I don't think so. Nice thought, though.
NO, Byron, you dumbfuck, it's not a nice thought. It's not a THOUGHT at all. It's fucking stupid fanboy drool. And you just suck it up, don't you? Moron tool.

New Skidmark on the Block:
Feyd wrote:The Butlerian Jihad occured 10,000 years before the events of Dune.

The first page of the book Dune states the Atreides have lived on Caladan for 26 generations. 26 x 20 = 520. Even using a long generation, 30 years, we still only get 600 years.

But in the Butlerian Jihad trilogy, an Atreides (forget the name) finds the planet Caladan and lives there.

So um.

Also the Bene Gesserit Breeding Program's age and the number of generations of the Corrino house only came out to about 2500 years.... But the new trilogy shows the Corrino's coming to power 10,000 years ago....
So ... um ... indeed.
Allizkaerf wrote:I believe Siona's vision was of a possible past that Leto's metamorphasis prevented.
;)

Nah. How could she, in her present, have a vision of a past no longer accessible. It wouldn't be a prescient vision at all, but instead some sort of "mini-Sharing" in which Leto fed her his memories of the future he foresaw and prevented. That seems a lot more convoluted than him imagining himself as dying away from water and causing the GP to "wink out" temporarily for the duration of her vision.

No real textual support in the passage for either, though. ;)

I'm sure they'll take that as a compliment. :D

Wait, what? I can actually publish my Dune works here so long as I don't seek profit from them?
zeropoint wrote:
zeropoint wrote:Getting your work published through the HLP is a different story. I just don't think Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson would give up their position as the sole proprietors of Frank Herbert's DUNE.
Yeah, even if I don't seek a profit, I can't imagine them being too happy with an alternate prequel/sequel series being published alongside theirs. Yet... it must be done!
That's the SPIRIT. You go, girl!

I see, too, that Byron laughed at a comment by another member making fun of Onasander's LONG post summarizing the future of Dune sites as he sees it (here, posted April 1st, but it doesn't seem a joke). I kinda felt sorry for Onasander (not the first time, but for different, more humane reasons this time), assuming he's being sincere.

Smug insider shithead through and through, isn't he, our Byron? How were we ever taken in by this self-serving conman shill?

And as always, good to see "Allizkaerf" doing his part to keep DuneNovels alive. ;)

I truly would not give 1.8 shits about that place if it weren't given the status as the "official site" for Dune messageboards. The fact that it is considered official makes me sad for Frank; it really, truly does.

And he would hate the stifling of any discord or dissatisfaction, too. Frank would completely oppose what ShutUpByron has turned that place into. In fact, he would be pretty much kicking ass and taking names right about now.

It's pathetic that Byron can't or won't see that. He's either sold his soul for a few pieces of silver or else is irredeemably stupid. Neither option says much about his character.

I'll admit that he's in a bit of a tough situation with whether to defend his dead grandfather and let us do our thing, or to defend his living uncle. I don't envy that choice, because either way he's trashing his family.

Maybe he doesn't realize that he can't suppert Brian and not disrespect FH though, or if he does understand it he just doesn't want to deal with the conflict with Brian and just pushes it out of his mind.
