Re: Hello
I saw that someone had mentioned Emprworm somewhere the other day (not sure if it was the God thread or not), but that was before my time.
I haven't been back since the other night when I posted my last comment in the thread. Does that mean it got even sillier, if Madhi closed the thread? I'll pop by later to survey the destruction. Oh well, all in all it was very enlightening.

Re: Hello
Emprworm was not as bad he was made out, though I really didn't like him to begin with, he was a pompous better knowing bastard who would make any right wing christian radical look like Bill Clinton at times. He did stir up the waters though and caused the end of the Landsraad, which was actually ok, when looking at it retrospective. The Landsraad WAS kinda elitist, and gob did the right thing by closing it down.
Mahdi closed the thread because he thought there was too many personal attacks...that's a bit hard to avoid in a religious or political discussion imo, people tend to ressolve at name calling and mud throwing at some point, we just have to turn on the news to confirm this

Do not be quick to reveal judgment. Hidden judgment is often more potent. It can guide reaction whose effects are felt only when too late to divert them.

Right. Trapped forever in a discussion thread with an immortal Conway comes to mind.
I don't try to convince people God doesn't exist (I'm an atheist myself, but I do respect other's beliefs), but I have spent significant time trying to convince creationists that what we know about evolution is true, and that they can both believe in God and understand evolution.
Results have been mixed.

I'm still very proud of The Quarry but … let's face it; in the end the real best way to sign off would have been with a great big rollicking Culture novel.

Re: Hello
I've been trying to get Christians to admit that they hate gay people because they're homophobes, not because god told them too. They ignore ALL of Leviticus except for the ONE anti-gay line, which is I think on the same page as "don't eat shrimp", and the whole Sodom and Gomorrah really has little to do with homosexuality, the whole point of that story is to teach people to be nice to strangers, and I think that about wraps it up (I'm sure I am missing some anti gay passages though, but they can be written off just as easily).
Not going so well thus far. It's like arguing with a triangle.

Re: Hello
I think ole "I'm so prudish & repressed I squeak" Pauly Girl had a few things to say about men lusting after men in the NT as well. But what didn't he go on about.
(Hmm ... is Paul like, the KJA of the Bible?! ... Nah, he actually wrote a few moving passages. KJA, none so far. )

Re: Hello
Yeah, Paul could actually write. Or his translators could, given I've only read the NT in English.

Hi,
I'm 27, male from The UK. Love The original series of dune, think of the new stuff as published fan fiction. Was a prodigious poster on a dune forum that disappeared a few years back.
Also working my way through the unabriged audio books from audio renaissance, they are very good (Dune in particular) the perfect thing to listen to while working. Got all the way to GED and am hoping to get the final two after Christmas.
