Re: I hate Hollywood
The ending is very much so more in-theme for the previous adaptations, but was changed due to executive meddling on the presumption that audiences would be too stupid to understand it.

I like how a "hot girl" tangent ended up being on-topic... Unfortunate what the topic is, though.Freakzilla wrote:Of course.Redstar wrote:Ryder suggested a sequel is in development last June.

A real sign of how sad Hollywood is was when they remade (sorry, "rebooted") The Hulk after just 5 years.
Let it burn & sink.
Dude. See Titanic.

It don't remember it being that bad - as a model effects fan I quite liked the bit at the end (I won't spoil it...)

(Titanic needs a bit of a disclaimer: I've seen the last half hour or so, the bit where she sinks. It was a Saturday afternoon and there was fook all else on and I gave in. But I figured I'd seen the best part and didn't bother trying to catch the rest any other time it was on.)

Fuck Titanic. Never seen it, never will. Zero interest.
(Although I did catch a few scenes a few years back as the wife watched it on the TV one night. I caught the legendary Leo-in-the-water-making-a-speech scene (or at least I've heard it's legendary), which wasn't the worst thing I'd ever seen. It still didn't really grab me, though)

Yes, the second half is great. I'd think you liberals would love watching all those rich people dying.

That would be true if most of the people that died would have been rich people indeed. Most of the passengers were poor immigrants however.Freakzilla wrote:Yes, the second half is great. I'd think you liberals would love watching all those rich people dying.

Maybe you could specify which "you" you mean next time? I'm probably more anti-socialist than you are.

(I've come to appreciate Winslet more as she's matured as an actress, but at the time? Grrrkh!)

Holding back the third class passengers was in the movie.
IIRC, about 1500 people died. A lot of people from all castes died.
Here's a list, count 'em if you like:

Re: I hate Hollywood
Who still thinks Ridley Scott should direct Dune?
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=60840
Then there's his coming adaptation of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World... Starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
I'm just not really sure. Robin Hood is a vast mythos with a lot of filming potential, and he does have a good cast, but I just feel the entire thing has been done to death lately... Is he planning a reboot ala Sherlock Holmes? I honestly can't see what good will come of it, unless he goes with some of the lesser-known tales. Or does something cool and ties it to the Arthur mythos. (Has that been done before?)
The Monopoly movie seems okay. A surreal take wouldn't necessarily be bad, but "taking on" the "evil Parker Brothers" just proves it's not going to be that way. It's Battleship all over again.
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=60840
He's also supposed to direct a Robin Hood film starring Russell Crowe as Robin Hood, Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian, and Mark Strong is also set to star as Sir Godfrey along with William Hurt, and Eileen Atkins.Producer/author Frank Beddor ("The Looking Glass Wars") revealed details of the story he pitched for the Monopoly movie that got Ridley Scott interested in directing. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Beddor gave a lot of info on what you can expect. Here's an excerpt:
I created a comedic, lovable loser who lives in Manhattan and works at a real estate company and he’s not very good at his job but he’s great at playing Monopoly. And the world record for playing is 70 straight days – over 1,600 hours – and he wanted to try to convince his friends to help him break that world record. They think he is crazy. They kid him about this girl and they're playing the game and there’s this big fight. And he’s holding a Chance card and after they’ve left he says, ‘Damn, I wanted to use that Chance card,’ and he throws it down. He falls asleep and then he wakes up in the morning and he’s holding the Chance card, and he thinks, ‘That’s odd.’"
"He’s all groggy and he goes down to buy some coffee and he reaches into his pocket and all he has is Monopoly money. All this Monopoly money pours out. He’s confused and embarrassed and the girl reaches across the counter and says, ‘That’s OK.’ And she gives him change in Monopoly money. He walks outside and he’s in this very vibrant place, Monopoly City, and he’s just come out of a Chance Shop. As it goes on, he takes on the evil Parker Brothers in the game of Monolopy."

Try listing the movies in which he doesn't...SandChigger wrote:Di Caprio (sp?) dying is NEVER a bad thing.

That's just the cherry on top of what I consider a really great film. I remember resenting it back when it came out because of all the pretty-boy Dicaprio hype. I was in my early teens at the time, so I'm all the girls my age had Leo as a priority over me. But since then, Dicaprio has impressed me over and over again, so I've come to accept Titanic for the moving tragedy/action film that it is.Tleszer wrote:I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Kate Winslet nude scene.
Has anyone seen The Reader yet? Kate Winslet is naked for like the first third of that film. She's definitely showing her age though. Not a bad movie too.

And "Lately"? When has Robin Hood not been done to death? This one sounds pretty epic though.

You're right about that. It's been going on pretty much all the time, but the BBCs still running new episodes of their rendition, right? Meant "lately" because there isn't a lull right now.DuneFishUK wrote:And "Lately"? When has Robin Hood not been done to death? This one sounds pretty epic though.

Bongwater
I just watched Bongwater "on-demand" staring ALICIA WITT, Luke Wilson, Jack Black, Andy Dick, Britteny Murphey (Brunette!) etc...
Pretty good.
Alicia Witt plays an awesome psycho bitch, she'd be a perfect CoD Alia.
