Bored at work...
So I finally decided to register here.
Been aware of this place for quite a while now(lurked around unregistered for at least a year), but I am terribly bored at work right now and decided why the hell not?
Can't remember exactly when I got into Dune. I branched slowly from the C&C Red Alert games to Dune 2000 and Emperor: Battle for Dune then eventually went to the library to read the books.
You're likely to hate this but the first one i picked out was House Atreides... it was the only one they had at the time. I read far enough into it to find out the Baron wasn't fat then I put it down and realized it wasn't written by the original author. Went back to the library later to find one by Frank later only it was God Emperor of Dune but I grabbed it anyway. Read it and was extremely confused as to how different it was from the plot lines in the games(It was no longer a desert planet and that kind of pissed me off heh). Well, eventually I got a copy of Dune and was finally able to read them in the proper order and make sense of things. Been hooked ever since.
TL;DR... You no handler!

Since it was in-sietch we'll let you keep your water a little longer.

(Looks like I had a bit of a tag misadventure, though; fixed now.

Starting off with GEoD after reading one of the prequels must have been quite a shock, all the more respect for you to have sticked to it!
It should be interesting to have the point of view of someone who came to the books through the games!
Welcome²

The way to become an accepted member of the forum is to ACT LIKE ONE, not like a limited idiot.

Keep your hands and feet away from their mouths and try not to make any sudden movements.

Paul of Dune was so bad it gave me a seizure that dislocated both of my shoulders and prolapsed my anus.

Welcome to the future.
I don't think the author should make the reader do that much work - Kevin J. Anderson
We think we've updated 'Dune' for a modern readership without dumbing it down.- Brian Herbert
There’s an unwritten compact between you and the reader. If someone enters a bookstore and sets down hard earned money(energy) for your book, you owe that person some entertainment and as much more as you can give. - Frank Herbert

Re: Bored at work...
it was really only the first chapter or so from the book. the Baron not being fat really bothered me. oddly though in comparison the lack of the Ordos didnt make a difference to melotek wrote:Starting off with GEoD after reading one of the prequels must have been quite a shock, all the more respect for you to have sticked to it!

and yes coming from the games made GEoD well... very strange as i did not expect Leto's uhhh shall we say physique

and it also took a while to make sense of things(Paul's son being killed in Dune confused the hell out of me)
i also have a couple of friends that have read at least some of the series and when discussing the "finale"
