I like the new stuff, not as much as the original. There not Frank Herbert and have said so themselves. As long as the new stories don't go away from that universe I'm happy, I've been happy with all the sequels and prequals, though some more than others.

My list of most like to least like meaning things didn't get to weird.

The Jihad series(erasmus and the human history is so cool)
Paul of Dune(better than I thought it was going to be, a good story for after Dune).
The House books(nice history of the houses)
The end books, only because it was the ending and could never be done as well or maybe even slightly different than what Frank would have wrote, but still I enjoyed it for the most part.(did like that Duncan was the one, awesome, and the bring back of Norma Cenva and robots).

and just to put in here my favorite original books in there order

God Emperor of Dune(so darn philosophical, it's so much fun to question).
Heritics of Dune(the story is awesome, whoo Teg.
Dune(the original the best in a way, I just like those other 2 just a bit more).
Chapterhouse Dune(more of heritics, just to bad it had to end on such a cliffhanger).
Children of Dune(The children rule).
Dune Messiah(I really did like the death of everybody bad)

No vote, I just enjoy that there are now more books to read in the Dune series and that is enough for me. That was ever, enough.

They're not Frank Herbert, no one is and I don't try to find that level in the new Dune books. Just keep me entertained and if you can make it feel I'm being taught something as well.

OK ... I hereby nominate new DN user "Fragrant Talk"(?) Xianghua (Joined: 24 Aug 2009 Posts: 6) for the (new as of now) STUPIDEST PREEK ALIVE Award!

I am an avid fan of Dune, ever since I found out about it through my stalkings of world famous author KJA!! (Lol, just kidding, I only follow him on Twitter and Mysape). Anyway, when I learned Kev was working on a new project, I jumped right into the series. I started wen the Butleran Jihad came out, read that, and, like I do with every KJA book I read, I was within days voraciously reading the previous ones, Houses Atriedes, Harkonnen, and Corrino! I loved the Legends series, especially with all the action, and their was a good amount of philosophizing too. Dune 7 was sort of too much recapping, and of books I hadn't read as of that point (I wanted to read all the KJA and Brian Herbert stuff first, because in my list of top three authors, if I haven't read one of their books, even one that just came out, I spaz ) but the ending of Sandworms it seemed like they tried to make it really epic. It was IMO. Although I didn't understad some references of the old books by Brian's father Frank, they did give me some help.

Anyway, now that I've rambled on about my Dune tastes, I'm 27 years old and I also like Transformers, and I recently enjoyed the GI Joe movie.
I also liked Coraline, which was really good for an animated one.

I can't believe he has read all of the newer Dune books but none of Franks. He complained about recapping but presumably relies on it for the story.

It's far more likely with the praise he's giving that it's a KJASF member posing as a "real-life, down-to-earth fan", and the suggestion that "he" likes Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Coraline are hints that one of those three directors will be helming Dune in place of Peter Berg.

If thats the best you can get against Kevin (and Brian Herbert), then I guess he's pretty damn good. And, yeah, he's a NY Times bestseller, and world famous author. I'm pretty sure 99.999999999% of people who read don't give two shits about Deus EX Machina. You're in the minority my friend.

I think out of fans of Frank Herbert's books, being a relatively intelligent, literary, well-read bunch, 99% probably DO care about deus ex machina, because it is indeed the sign of an author that has gotten stuck with what (s)he is writing, and had to resort to supernatural agencies to resolve it.

They continue to sell because of the fanboy mentality that buys anything with a label on it. Strangely enough, KJA nuDune actually seems to be an antidote to this because sales seem to be dropping rapidly.
