We had talked a lot about this before--I believe chanilover referred to this as the "cunt corner"
We could have a forum where if it gets to heated, the debate is moved by one of the admins/mods to the "flame room" (or whatever you want to call it) and they can duke it out. Any thoughts? Too risky?
An admin would have to set up a user group and then restrict certain users to that thread. Freak would have to do it. The only thing we can do is patrol the threads, move and delete.
Why wait? It could also be a fun place where you can just randomly insult people. For instance, I might start a thread titled "Only communist hippies have Journey avatars", to poke fun at the knife man up there.
What we wish, we readily believe, and what we ourselves think, we imagine others think also.

I just feel it would legitimize fighting and I don't want to encourage that.

I'd say bring it!
But that is pretty much how I describe myself!
Now, if you had said, "republican evangelical", then we'd have a problem. Uh, no offense to "republican evangelicals".

Sounds like bad business, best we just check the "aggression" at the door.
I think Freak said it best over at DN:
"Winning an internet fight is like winning the special olympics, no matter who wins your both retarded"
I just foresee things getting out of hand. Saying what you want to say about the books (positive or negative) without censer is good but letting people get into those annoying unproductive back and forths just seems like a slippery slop.
If you guys "must", then by all means. At least it will be limited to a thread and those of us who have no use for flame wars won't be bothered by the bickering. I trust our faithful moderators to keep it contained within the "flame room" so it's not a real big deal to me.

If we decide to go that route Simon, that's exactly what it would be. Only one specific area could you do this and it would be strictly prohibited from spilling out into the other forums.
Its just a thought for funsies. I don't care if we do it one way or another.
My spelling depends on my mood I don't know how to use spell check so some days I'll prof read what I write, others I just fire it off like "F-it, there's so much misspelling going on who's going to care"

Hee hee, must be one of those days where you don't "prof" read
