Anybody heard of Porcupine Tree? Good music, good lyrics.

Awesome track. Portishead are great. They are one of those "hidden gem" bands that produce some really good material only infrequently. This reminds me that I need to pick up Third. I keep forgetting to buy it.Baraka Bryan wrote:Portishead - Sour Times

Stage invasion at a Britney show! I love her little jig when she forgets the dance moves, but the funniest thing is her freaking out silently because her mic is never switched on.

The Chameleons-Soul in Isolation
Not the same rocky version from Strange Times, It's a more mellow rendition. I hope you like it, they're one of the best underrated bands ever.

Re: The Music Suggestion Thread
Thought this would be a humorously appropriate song given the topic by SandRider and SandChigger
I'm Your Villain (by Franz Ferdinand, 2005)
Ignore the video. I couldn't find a non-live version of this song in any other video posting.

This was a very moving piece, perhaps more so for us fans of Firefly. Great stuff.Baraka Bryan wrote:The Funeral

Re: The Music Suggestion Thread
I usually avoid threads like these as I tend to find that no-one's ever heard of my personal favourites
- but seeing as Dead Can Dance were mentioned on the first page here, I'll share a few faves:
Cocteau Twins - Millimillenary
The Sundays - Goodbye
Curve - Horror Head
and lastly a slice of British techno from the early nineties, Eon - The Spice Must Flow. They also has another song called 'Fear is the Mindkiller' which sampled Kyle McLachlan.

Re: The Music Suggestion Thread
That Cocteau Twins song sounds like New Order meets Lisa Gerrard.
I remember The Sundays from something, but I can't place it. It may have been a soundtrack or someone playing stuff at a party.
I like Curve. They have a somewhat unconventional sound. Interesting song.
Can't say I'm crazy about Eon.

Re: The Music Suggestion Thread
The reason I like threads like this is that they normally provide a chance to hear music that I might never hear about otherwise. The short time this thread as been up here on the board, (and the 'Last Song You Heard' thread over at Worm's) has provided me with an opportunity to hear songs that I might never had heard otherwise. And several of them I have liked but I know would have never been played on the radio stations to which I normally listen.Sev wrote:I usually avoid threads like these as I tend to find that no-one's ever heard of my personal favourites- but seeing as Dead Can Dance were mentioned on the first page here, I'll share a few faves:

So please keep the suggestions coming, all of you.

Re: The Music Suggestion Thread
I don't listen to the radio so I've no idea what of my preferred music is played over the airwaves. I assume most of it must be, since I know many of the acts to which I listen are popular, even though most aren't classified as "pop music."
Well, I feel like mixing it up a bit, so I'm gonna throw out a variety of good stuff
First up, some very dramatic music...
To The Ancient Land (by Ko Otani, 2005, Roar of the Earth Soundtrack)
In Awe of the Power (by Ko Otani, 2005, Roar of the Earth Soundtrack)
Next, some brand new electronica by an old band...
Wrong (by Depeche Mode, 2009)
And into some of the best classic rock...
Black Dog (by Led Zeppelin, 1971)
Lastly, some indie fun...
Son of Sam (by Elliott Smith, 2000)

Like those first three. Thanks a lot for posting those. And of course I remember Zeplain. That brings back memories of listening to my brother's records trying not to get caught. but I'm not for sure about that last one. It was very interesting and I I like the music. It's just that everytime I hear "Son of Sam" I think of that serial killer who went by that name.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Haven't heard that for a while - I put in on a CD I made to listen to during my final A-Level Art exam.Sev wrote:and lastly a slice of British techno from the early nineties, Eon - The Spice Must Flow. They also has another song called 'Fear is the Mindkiller' which sampled Kyle McLachlan.

A couple of songs by Weather Report:

Second one is my favourite from the album. Incredible musicianship.
Enjoy! (Pastorius is king of bass guitar).
