That's nice, but doesn't answer my question. Has she looked into the naturalization process?Nebiros wrote:My brother lives there. He has an Indonesian wife. If the far-right had their way, my sister in law would never be able to obtain a stay permit.
Sounds like laziness with regard to official procedures runs in your family. Anyway, you don't vote for someone else. And, sorry, but what was your first reason? My brother says he will never vote because he cannot be bothered by registration and standing in line. So a second reason for me to vote would be for him and his family. And even if he did vote, I'd still vote also just for good measure.
So you have started the procedures to become Indonesian? (Ah, at last an answer!) If you feel bad that you won't get to vote THIS year, why didn't you start the process sooner? Also changing my nationality here is a very tedious process. I probably won't obtain my new nationality until next year. Indonesian elections are THIS year and I will not just stand by while my wife exercises her legal right to vote and I don't even though I can.
Hmm? Nah. After all, he can't waste my time if I choose to ignore him, now can he? Whatever his real motivations, I choose to pick at his stated reasons. He's one of my hobbies.Drunken Idaho wrote:Chig, you reckon Neb is deliberately wasting our time?
Well done High Eyes, you brought it back to a civil thread. And actually you bring up the topic of what we like to call stratigic voting. Where by you vote for who you think has the best chance of winning and some what lines up with what you want. You dont "waste" your vote on someone who has no chance of winning. Its an interesting subject.Eyes High wrote:Well I would advice everyone to excercise their right to vote. Why stand by and let someone else choose who will effect the laws that govern your own life.
Even though "my canidate" might not win, at least I know for myself that I did what I could. If I just stand by and let others speak for me then why should I complain when things are done that I disagree with?
Voting is up to the individual. In my opinion I believe we should excercise our right to vote. Especially if we live in a country that allows the citizen to vote. It jsut might be a hopless cause, but it sure will be if everyone became too lazy to go through the process.
Well that's my two pence for this subject today. Have a nice day y'all.

The middle is a stand, it is a position. That's the first thing that lets me know to stop arguing with a person, is when they can't grasp the concept that being in the middle of economic systems, or governing systems etc is having an opinion, not a lack of one, or an inability to decide.Baraka Bryan wrote:the middle is the way to mediocrity and apathy... take a fucking stand!A Thing of Eternity wrote:You'd agree if you thought it through.Baraka Bryan wrote:Hey, disagreement!A Thing of Eternity wrote:Of course it is.Baraka Bryan wrote:also... socialism is badA Thing of Eternity wrote:Hey, agreement!Baraka Bryan wrote:ya that's needed with mandatory voting, because otherwise you get a bunch of dumbfucks who vote randomly or by what the media tells them on the drive over.A Thing of Eternity wrote:I think there should be another box to check off on the voting cards for those who don't like any of the parties. actually to be very honest, i have more respect for NDP voters than Liberal supporters. at least they have something they stand for and vote for every single election, knowing full well that they will never get the power to implement their vision. Liberals simply sway with popular opinion, flip-flopping on issues for political gain, rather than standing for actual principles in the face of opposition.
Dion was a sort of lapse and won mostly because of poor alliences within the party, trust me I was at the convention when he was somehow a long shot from a front runner and over with the span of 2 hours. Most of us were extreemly disapointed to say the least. But in any case my party stands for the middle road and while we may have lost our way since Jean held us together with his classic crazy "choke you out if you dont do as I say" way... Power vacum etc etc. We do have clear principles and while the party did stumble last election they will once again show they do stand for many important issues, and they do stand for the middle class, middle ground, middle of the political spectrum. But yes you are correct, Mr. Dion pushed the party far too left and was a poor choice for leader.Baraka Bryan wrote:ATOE wrote:The middle is a stand, it is a position. I think you know that though and were just poking for a reaction.
P.s. The middle is the way and you know it. You probably already believe it, you just won't admit it.I'm definitely not a middle-road traveller, but yes I do know that it's a position that holds as much legitimacy as the wings.SwordMaster wrote:
@ Baraka - Dude, are you just trying to get me amped up or do you really feel that way about my party?
Let me make a distinction here: There is a big difference between holding to the middle of the road because that is where your principles lie, and seeming to sit in the middle of the road because you keep flip-flopping with the political tide. (sit meant as a dig)
so to respond to your comments/questions, yes ATOE, I respect your position as a middle-player because I know you've looked at the alternatives and truly feel that is where your values lie on economic/social issues (you guys should really coin a better term for it than the 'middle' though)
and yes SM, I do feel that way about the Liberal Party of Canada, because it doesn't stand for that middle-position. this was clearly demonstrated when Dion took the party so much further to the left than it ever would have been under chretien, martin, or now iggy. they stand for whatever works for them at the time and don't have clear principles to stand by.
