South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford says he may reject a quarter of the stimulus money.
Governors Rick Perry of Texas, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and Haley Barbour of Mississippi, have said they would reject a portion of the money that would expand unemployment benefits to those not currently eligible to receive them. Sanford says he will also reject those funds, but he has threatened to go much further, requesting a waiver to spend some $700 million targeted for education and other programs to pay down some of the state's debt instead.
they all have shit-spewing, posturing governors who know damn good
and well they don't actually have the power to refuse the money ?
and the tiny little bit of money they are making headlines about is
less than .05% of the total state apportions ?
BTW, in the latest Texas Monthly, Kinky Friedman has requested that
when he dies, he be cremated and the ashes spread in Rick Perry's hair.

I was gonna say, I saw on the news one of the states making a huge fuss about not accepting the money and getting all high and mighty...
... then they showed the numbers, and they were planning to accept 99% of the money and reject 1% in order to make a statement. Oh yeah... loud statement that is...
I just found out from my mortgage company, Contrywide, that the Secretary of State has flagged my loan as predatory and they will be sending me a modification.
Obama's gonna pay my mortgage!

are you going to reject the modified lower payments as a
protest against the Obama policies ?
you could donate the difference to Palin 2012.

Considering my house is probobly worth $50,000 less than I paid for it, I'll take it.
Thanks, Obama!

Money is always better put to use in your hands than in the hands of the government. Universal law.
NEVER turn down money from the government. Not for ANY reason.

Force jobs to make typically automates tasks into jobs (such as gas-pumpers or grocery baggers) to increase the jobs available, then force those employees to sign contracts dictating they can only buy gas/groceries from their place of employment to help return some of the money invested in new employees.

The way I see it, it's our money anyway. Well, our grandchildren's.

Ahem.
I'm not gonna buy anything from this hell spawned company, I get ripped off enough by the bastards.
In memory of Perach, who suffered and died needlessly.
I wish I could have been with you that one last time.

If we just went to state property.... oh never mind
lol no. I'm not sure I approve of Obama's drunken sailor spending plans, but i'm not too worried..
the market will rebound in a while and people will keep spending... and the US will spend 400 years paying off this debt.
I'm no expert, but I'm also pretty confident in a rebound. I say within a year or two, we'll see a positive change in direction of the markets. The trade-off is that the world will come out a little bit shuffled. New rules will be in place about how money is lent and spent, and the US will probably no longer be the superpower they once were. I see a lot of news/talk programs speculating about the US's loss of that status, and a lot of people seem to fear such a notion, however I welcome it. It's not just because I'm Canadian, I also happen to think it will be a healthy change for both the world and the people of the US. I mean, America saw more than 60 years of prosperity. They, along with the rest of western civilization, allowed themselves to become fat and complacent, and now it's time to start living intelligently. This is all very good and cleansing, trust me. It's all about the long-run.

China, India, Iran, and first and foremost, Canada!
There is a FH book where Canada is the world Military leader, based on diplomacy, rather the UN is the last major Military force on earth and Canadians hold some of the highest ranks in that system. Who would have an issue with a Canadian Military leader? It was a cool book. Cant remember the name now, but the protagonist was a Canadian Admiral that was in charge of the UN Sea Fleet.
I am a turd. Do not emulate me, or Omphalos shall mock you as well.
Even if she does object to Obama's actions, she's only doing so because her Republican cohorts would agree. As if she really understands any of this. It seems to me that Republicans keep playing the role of obstructionists. They're taking an awfully bitter position on it, without proposing any real solutions of their own. Then you get the others who are already talking about a second package, which is absurd. Isn't a lot of the stimulus money meant to be handed out over time? I say watch and wait for now, especially considering the fact that a trillion was just spent.
I keep an eye on the little stock ticker on the home page of msn.ca (every time I sign out of hotmail). When the market is down from the previous day, the text is red, and when its up the text is green. Over the last week it seems to me that there has been more green than red. So we'll see...
