This discussion has put me at a moral dilemma. Is it wrong to buy new copies of Frank Herbert's books, as the profits are going to the HLP?

As I see it, No, because the sales figures still go to Frank's Dune. I don't have a problem over the HLP profiting off Frank's inheritance. I do ask them to hold it in trust in his spirit. Which they are doing the exact opposite of.
KJA doesn't directly profit from sales of Dune unless he's been made a member of the HLP. If that has happened...buy Dune second-hand.

Not really, because Frank's Books are worth paying for, and they are the legitimate inheritance of the HLP. It's the others that i'm glad i spent only about a pound a book for (gotta love charity!).Illogical Banana wrote:This discussion has put me at a moral dilemma. As for the film, meh, it'll be available for download about 24 hours after first cinema showing, if not before hand.

I suppose Frank Herbert would want his great-grandchildren to be properly educated, so you may as well pay towards it.Illogical Banana wrote:This discussion has put me at a moral dilemma. Is it wrong to buy new copies of Frank Herbert's books, as the profits are going to the HLP?

Well I do have 5 or so copies of each book, and multiple copies of most of his other books. Thanks to ebay and book lots where I only needed one of the books. But I don't like reading most of those cause they're older versions, and I haven't had much luck with older books not falling apart when reading them. I really wish they'd come out with oversized paperbacks for all the books like they did with the 40th anniversary edition. Mass market paperbacks just annoy me.

Fine, but I'm not taking my clothes off.
Not unless Simon agrees to sketch me.
So...speaking of nude sketches...would one of Dear Byron reveal that he has had those fake ball things inserted into his scrotum?
Oh...sorry, this was the "outing him politely" thread, wasn't it?

- you know illogicalbanana did pose a good question. It would seem logical that KJA is a member of of the HLP, the question is does he receive a cut of any of the proceeds when any of Frank's books are sold. On principle alone i wouldn't want KJA to receive a dime of any of that. another ? would be does the HLP receive anything when the prequels end up as cutouts at used bookstores, or have they already received their cut beforehand? any idea?
