Reordered Dune
I've just ordered and recieved the entire original Dune chronicles. My books were looking a little old (http://www.arrakis.co.uk/jpg/dune1l.jpg). I've had them for over 10 years now so I decided to replace them with a new set from amazon. Decided to go for the 40th anniversary edition of Dune (which has BH in the back saying that the new books need to be on the same level as FH's books). The rest of the books I went for the USA Berkley Covers because they look like a nice set http://images.wikia.com/dune/images/7/7 ... er_Art.jpg
Really looking forward to reading them again. Once I've finished the prequals, I'll head right back to the originals and to my fav two of the series Dune and God Emperor. This time I'll get my gf to read them all! She was too afraid to damage my old books but now she has no excuse seeing as she loved Dune.

And after reading the books in chronological order , do you think they worked together with the originals?Laphtiya wrote:I've just ordered and recieved the entire original Dune chronicles. The singular multiplicity of this universe draws my deepest attention. It is a thing of ultimate beauty.

I dont think they add anything to the originals. Because lets face it the originals were fine on there own. I've been enjoying the prequals in.....well its hard to explain. The way I look at them is:Lisan Al-Gaib wrote:And after reading the books in chronological order , do you think they worked together with the originals?Laphtiya wrote:I've just ordered and recieved the entire original Dune chronicles. 1) They are not FH so I dont expect the style to be anything like them.
2) I look at them as FAN books because lets face it they are.
The only thing that drags them down and by alot are the mistakes and errors such as spice only allowing a man to live to 170 max (See House A prequal). I try to look past those and I have to admit I've read worse. But I do not think they add to the originals at all, they are a seperate thing for those who want to read EVERYTHING about the Dune universe. If you want a TRUE Dune experiance, just read the great works done by Frank Herbert and stop there.

LOL I am going to read the sequals eventually. Just so I can fully take part in the ranting and complaining that looks like so much FUN!SandChigger wrote:Ah...blessed are they who walk in some forms of ignorance....
Thats one of the reasons I am going to re-read Dune. I think I missed/or not fully understood the Spice cycle. I know Sandwormd and Sand Trout are involved in the process but I think I was lost around the Pre-spice mass area.
But back on topic. The prequals add nothing for me (Well not House series anyway). But I guess I can semi enjoy because I just look at them as fanfiction and nothing more. Because lets face it, THEY ARE!

It's not just you. It isn't thoroughly explained. We've discussed it in depth here if you can find it.Laphtiya wrote:Thats one of the reasons I am going to re-read Dune. Paul of Dune was so bad it gave me a seizure that dislocated both of my shoulders and prolapsed my anus.

Has anyone else noticed that the Danish for 'Dune' is 'Klit'? Wonder if the Danish for 'prequel author' is 'Talentless Kunt'.Laphtiya wrote:I've just ordered and recieved the entire original Dune chronicles.
