Someone Who Got Way into Dune
Hello Duners! I am the Atreides Armorer. I was incredibly bored one day last June, so bored I made the outrageous decision to read a book for the first time since High School. I saw the 2021 Villeneuve movie a few years prior and I didn't really understand what was going on so the good idea fairy told me to read the book. I got hooked instantly, and by August I had completed Chapterhouse. I rewatched Villeneuve's Part 1 and then watched Part 2 and It's definitely decent as far as book adaptations go. I'm also into TTRPGs; my current Dune pet project is reading the Dune Encyclopedia and creating a homebrew Dune RPG based on the Interlock System (used in RTG products like Cyberpunk and The Witcher). Outside of those I like firearms, amateur radio, anime, and nature (hiking, camping, etc.). I found this place by going down an online rabbit hole dug by SandChigger and I think an old school internet forum full of FH purists is a great spot for me to occasionally browse and post.
Whoa, Paul Atreides needs me? Alright, I’ll do it. I’m going to bat for you Muad’Dib!

Hello!
Personally I was bored during Villeneuve's part 1, and didn't bother with part 2. But at least it revitalized the book in the popular culture a bit.

Without Part 1 I would’ve never discovered the books, Part 2 is definitely the superior entry. However I have some major critiques of the new movies: the Spacing Guild is mentioned once in exposition; the Water of Death and CHOAM aren’t mentioned at all; Chani gets a weird subplot at the end; and somebody decided to use a lasgun in the scene where Duncan escapes in a shielded ‘thopter. The rest can be chalked up to a book that relies on prose, philosophy, and lore-dumps being hard to adapt; also Alia’s killing of the Baron would’ve been very hard to film. I wait in apprehensive anticipation for the Messiah movie. I’m very glad the movies have gotten people to pick up the books because God Emperor is the best book I’ve ever read. It takes something absolutely astounding to motivate me to read and Frank got me hook, line, and sinker. I love Leto II, he is the best written character in any media; I never thought I could love a self-admitted tyrant but Frank somehow pulled it off.

Paul of Dune was so bad it gave me a seizure that dislocated both of my shoulders and prolapsed my anus.
