how long did it take after spice to produce the navigators?
ive been wondering about their grotesqueness
seems unlikely its the product of a lifetime of spice downing but
a matter of a long process oif heredity
as far as i can remember, nothing is mentioned
it seems more like its an evolutionary thing
but again, nothing in the word tells about this

Re: how long did it take after spice to produce the navigators?
that could have been worded better
i see no evidence of navigators being produced from humans inside a single lifetime
if it were, the dune universe would be littered with grossly disformed beings that seems to never crop up...

Why do you need answers to this stuff? The prequels have their own fanfic interpretation, and FH gives us a bit more in the books past Dune, but we don't know how long it takes afaik or whether there's a genetic component. To the extent that his books are 'works of prediction' I doubt he had any intention to predict how some made-up substance affects your genes.

They were born and raised in space, that answers the question for me.

Why not? And I don't think they were originally described as "grotesque" They had elongated limbs and webbed digits, but were still human and could reproduce. The latter navigators IMO were influenced by the Lynch design. After the movie he started describing them like that.

I think it’s probably more of an evolutionary trait rather than something from a lifetime of spice consumption. It makes sense that over generations, certain features would develop due to survival or environmental factors. I’ve never seen anything in the source material directly explain it though, so it’s mostly just speculation. But yeah, it doesn’t seem like it's something that just popped up from a few years of diet or habits.
