I dont have any pdfs of the books or anything so i cant make a reasonably quick reference. But I seem to remember Chani being described as olive or deeply tanned, and that she had her mother's looks, so at best my argument is suppositional.

The shadout Mapes is described at dark and leathery. Same generally with Stilgar and other fremen. I can find quotes if asked but they are anecdotal and ambiguous. They can mean a lot of things. Like dark of the face seems to be used to describe grimaces. Harrah is also described as light and she was Fremen. So who knows?

But, I'm not sure what olive skinned means. The Duke Leto is described having with olive skin, but I never imagined him being dark. Duncan is described as having a rich tan.

I wonder how Frank Herbert imagined the Fremen!

Olive is generally used to describe the look of Mediterranean people (Greeks, Turks, etc.)
