Not sure it's completely unrelated, but this came up in the context of my work and there's the whole Butlerian Jihad thing to contend with should this really be our future...

Well, the Culture presumes deeply ethical, loving sapient machine minds. What we seem to be heading towards are non-conscious specialized robots that just happen to be better at our jobs than we are.
