Firefox crashing like a bitch

Post by GamePlayer »

Anyone else encountering some really hard core crashing in Firefox lately? Ever since the "update" last week, opening links (like the SomethingAwful link about the House Harkonnen Flourists) crashes firefox so hard, you'd think you were inside Bond's DB6 in Royale.

I've been having problems for the past couple of days - when I Open Link in New Tab the tab opens with the address in the address bar... but it doesn't load it until I manually select the address and hit enter.

It's bizarre. :?

(It's also been trying to open pages/pictures/files in any and all programs that aren't firefox... but that's been going on for months now :P)

Some of the page loads have been slower than normal, and it doesn't quite work as well as it should on my laptop at work. I got my first error message today using Firefox.

Ave Maria? :)

Okay, thanks everyone. Perhaps it's just a problem with my work computer. Doesn't seem to be an issue at home.

I had one yesterday. Firefox crashes are happening with me too frequently...And is not a malware, I pass antivirus-program everyday.

This is actually the second or third time something like this has happened with Firefox. It usually follows an update.

I'm beginning to think that perhaps Firefox has jumped the shark and it's time to try a different software browser. It was the most reliable, stable browser for a few years, but it's starting to become another IE in some ways.

I've been having trouble with Google Images using Firefox. There have been many times recently when Firefox cannot seem to load most of the search result images and the Firefox memory usage skyrockets and slows down the browser to the point where I can't even load simple web pages.

I'm definitely not going back to that virus/adware magnet IE. As bad as Firefox may get, it's no where near as bad as the problems I had with IE.

What are user opinions on the PC version of Safari and Google's Chrome?

the only problem I have with Firefox is opening pdf files...... locks up every time. I have to download them and open them with Acrobat. In a new tab? Forget it.

PDFs usually open correctly in firefox for me - it's PHP files (such as you might find on a phpbb board :P) that are my main problem. They keep opening in notepad :?

I used Google's Chrome for a month or so after the beta went public and had no real problems with it, a couple of hangs, app not OS iirc, but then it is only a beta. I'd say go fot it, you have my blessing son  :)

LOL :)
Well maybe I'll give it a try. It's probably proportional to the problems I encounter with Firefox in the next little while :)

I have no problems using Safari, the last update actually reduced load times. I don't know how the window version is though, you could always give it a whirl, it has been updated recently so some of the issues have been fixed.

I'll second that Safari thought: fast, reliable, and generally painless.

Yes, me too! At least once a day.
Only the books written by Frank Herbert are canon.

I think it's fixed. Firefox just updated today. When two updates come within a week of each other, it usually means the programmers have just spent the interim fixing what they fucked up the week before :)

EDIT Yep, they fixed it. Just checked it by opening the somethingawful link in another thread here in Jacurutu, a link that crashed my Firefox multiple times before the update. It works fine now.

I've been using Maxthon for a couple of months now. It's nice, but linked to IE.
