Well, it looks like KJA and BH are gonna be doing some Duncans on their own in the book Leto of Dune..It's surprising that after 10 books they haven't covered this yet. Anyways, who is your favorite of the four major Duncans in the originals?

I can't honestly say that I ever really liked the character.

I didn't either, but I voted for the original.

I hated Hayt. And the first one was too flat. I picked the third.

I voted for the last one. They're all about the same :?

Hayt is the most interesting to me. I'm a sucker for the zen stuff and I liked the ghola stuff to start with. I got a bit sick of Duncans until the end of Chapterhouse

The original we didnt really get time to know, he went out fighting though, thats cool

The hayt version wasnt really duncan, confused, unsure, betrayed, etc.

The third is the one we actually start to get to know the character.

So I voted number 3.

Well TECHNICALLY speaking, the vote is pointless because there all the same person :P

Had to be Leto II's last pet. Not really enough of a mention in the original, Hayt was a little flat i thought.

Hayt. I liked the combination of the ghola and zensunni.

Or the Female one?

Both from the DE

But they're not. Each has his own experiences up until awakening his past memories and therefore is slightly different from the original.

I gotta go with the God Emperor's last Duncan. Duncan was always one of my favorite characters and I think the GEoD Duncan is what made him so. Its obvious the character was designed to fill the "everyman" archetype, and I think it did so pretty well. He was a character the reader could relate to, especially in GEoD. As the reader, you were seeing things from his POV pretty much - being exposed suddenly to the shock of how different the universe was and what the Atreides had become.

I also liked how the story started with the previous Duncan on his way out. It provided a good juxtaposition between the new Duncan, seeing all this for the first time, and the old Duncan, who eventually comes to the same conclusion that they all do. I really got a sense of the cycle being repeated numerous times.

Of course Hayt did have the coolest death...

You guys confuse me...

To me, Duncan IS Dune.

I voted for Leto II's final Duncan. My favourite book plus my favourite character (tied with Leto II anyway)...

Ditto. At least a first. The whole ghola thing caught me completely off guard. I've gotta go with the predominant GEoD Duncan.

Exaaaactly. Leto II had the Duncans as a way of measuring the old against the new. I always figured that Leto meant for one of the Duncans to kill him at some point, when he had gone too far.

And I love the scenes with the elderly Duncan in the beginning of GEoD. So damned awesome... How can anyone say they never liked the character?

I'm Freak and Chig on this, Duncan was all right, but I didn't care much for him. Voted first one.

Because they're infidel preeks? :x

Or because they're afraid of his rampant masculinity. 8)

I chose the 4th option, because God Leto's Duncan was a bit of an ass, what with not agreeing with God Leto, killing his earthly(Rakisly?) avatar(because you know he's not truly dead) and all, or putting up with whiny Siona.

Duncan #12 on the other hand has matured and had a better perpective on things.
