Yes...but at least OUR language never died out and had to be given CPR. Nyah. :P

And it's not a "stupid" language.

(That would be Loxian. Completely stupid. No reason for its existence.)

Thought of another nice eg with a zero as the second digit for y'all: Year of the Norman Invasion/Conquest, anyone? ;)

(I don't remember EVER hearing this "and = decimal bit" stuff. Unless it's like in Serkanner's eg, five and four/tenths. But that's essentially the same as in Omph's comment: five + four/tenths.)

Okay, so we've agreed AND does not = decimal?

EDIT: Chig - you're right, it's not a stupid language - wait, I didn't mean you're/your correct, I meant you should take your/you're next right.

Good point. Obviously when writing out an amount on a check one would use "and" for the cents, maybe even when speaking, but again only with currency, never with regular numbers.

I don't use paper checks anymore but when I did I would write:

One hundred twenty three dollars-------------------------45/100

for $123.45

Paper checks are evil.

Any time I write a check to a friend or family member with a sense of humor, I'll add something like "illegal drugs" or "sex party" or "thanks for last night" on the comments line. Half the time they don't even notice; I might be the only person who still uses the comments line.
