I'm pretty sure it violates the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics for a large animal to generate a net increase in energy from the friction caused by its own motion - which would have required energy. Stick to snorkling Frank!

So I've been wondering lately; Leto II claims his body creates all the spice he needs right? Why exactly do the worms eat the spice then? FH says they always come to a blow and are attracted to the spice, correct?
Is it just the force of the spice blow that attracts them? Are they conditioned to the presence of the crawlers? Does FH ever say whether or not its specifically the spice they are attracted to?
If they make all they need then whats the point? Or am I missing something here? (extremely likely)

This subject seems a bit convoluted.
They eat sand plankton and sandtrout. The explosion is what attracts them.

The sandtrout are also loaded with spice essence, which masks the presence of moisture.
