The Prequels are dirt cheap

I don't know about you guys but when I go book shopping I usually buy from Ebay if my local store doesn't have what I'm looking for. Prices vary of course but a hardcover copy of dune typically goes for like 30 bucks. Dune Messiah and Children of Dune go for $50. By comparison a hardcover copy of Dune: House Atreides is $5. Anyone know why this is? Sure you could just say that they don't sell that well but many of the mcdune books made the bestseller lists in their heyday.

I don't know for sure, but Dune has a legacy behind it which has appeal for collectors who may not necessarily even be Dune fanatics, whereas the prequels are probably relegated to the 'Star Wars EU' box of being overproduced and not recognized by anyone for being quality literature. SW books, for instance, are plentiful in used book shops. I doubt collectors in general feel a need to keep the McDune books in their collection, to say nothing of displaying them. People probably read House: Atreides and get rid of it asap.

Because Dune is a classic, imparting new depth with every reading.
mcDune is awful, becoming more insulting with every reading.

Amp said it years ago, it's hard to find a second edition mcDune.

Really depends on which (hardcover) book. House Atreides is indeed for sale for around 6 bucks. Navigators is a lot more expensive on Ebay, so it seems.
Ebay is not a viable option for me anyway, as the shipping costs are high when sending books to Belgium. The local bookstores here usually don't have the books written by BH/KJA in stock so I always take a look at thrift stores or other places online where I can fetch them for a decent price.

You're comparing McDune to fine dining.
