Freak, you should send a note to the Mediteatro guys and ask them to visit with goodies, like they did before.

The guys that the HLP shut down. The crew in Malaga, Spain that made three full length fan films of the three original novellas in Dune, but got shut down by the HLP for daring to do so.

I would be a fine idea indeed.

Long live the fighters.

I tried to email them on their website, but it got bounced back saying their mailbox is full. The only other option I could think of was to PM them and hope "Aridqueen" doesn't intercept it.

Aren't they still on the DN BBS?

(Hmm...no, I guess they wouldn't be, would they. )

I haven't seen anything from them in months, it seems.

No. They told me that they would not be visiting there. Anyone with access to Aridqueen able to check various Mediteatro profiles to see if there are personal e-mail addresses there? Id personally love to find out how their new production is going.

Sorry we are offline for now. We are working on the skin, graphics, buttons, organization etc. Please bear with us and we will back soon.

Hey Omph, what do you think would have happened if they finished editing and showed the films (they originally planned to show for free?) without contacting the HLP?

I think that the HLP would have had to have a very long and serious talk about what to do. Its not hard to get an injunction, which is an order telling some one to stop (or start too) doing something, but I think it would have been very expensive to litigate it with Spanish defendants who probably dont have enough of what are called "minimum contacts" with any US jurisdiction.

But in the end it likely depends on what Mediteatro did. If they showed it once, for free, probably nothing. If they got a distributer and released it to every screen in Spain, they would for sure have sued. Something inbetween those options? The economics of the situation would have guided the HLP's hand.

In the end though, I think that the HLP thought that the real risk was to the movie that they are negotiating. So maybe they would have been more likely to sue. That is, as I have said before, the Golden Calf for the HLP these days, and is is worth more than any reprint rights all wrapped up together.

I can't believe the HLP are passing on this, it's free publicity after all

But publicity only for the original books.

(Fans devoted to the originals are pariahs now, you know, right?)

I have gone ahead and approved "mediteatro," but deleted "mediteatro!" (sorry Freak, I thought you had done that yesterday). Alvaro, if that is not what you wanted, please let either Freakzilla or me know and we will fix your user name.

I saw that he signed up twice, I was going to wait and see which he used. But that's cool.
