Hello everyone.

Post by Eyes High »

My "name" is Eyes High. I'm a born again Christian who likes fantasy, Sci-Fiction, history, mystery, true crime stories, ....need I go on. :) I'm a mother of three boys and married to a sci-fi fan.

Those who are members of Worm's Sci-Fi Haven should recognize me.

My favorite authors are LaHaye, Jenkins, McCaffrey. I also like some of Koontz. Yes, I'll confess that I have not read any of the Dune series yet.

Well looking forward to get know y'all better. Can you tell I'm from the south?

Welcome. Be prepared for very "open" talk about religion. Frank Herbert fans are not the most religious people in the internets.

Hello.

I passed on saying hello earlier because I didn't trust myself not to end up being sarcastic and come across as being mean to new people.

So much for self-control, huh?

Welcome, belatedly! :D

Welcome High Eyes. Have you joined the site because of the crash party? I hope you will find the time to read Dune and its sequels one of these days. They are a must read for every science fiction fan.

Thank you all. I liked the Jesus pic, it was neat. Yes, Orald I knew something like that was going to come from you.

Yes, I mainly came because of the crash party; but that doesn't mean that I won't stay around after all the hub bub is done.

I think my husband has one of the Dune books but I'm not for sure if it's from the 'proper' series or from the other ones that I hear so many Dune fans "comment" on.

Thanks again for all the welcomes. Good night and hope to post some tomorrow.

Just one question. I don't have to get a heart plug installed right away do I?

Nope. (That's only in the movie)

If you read something from the Dune series, make it Dune itself and start at the beginning (not the pre-beginning laid out by Pinky and the Brian). If you like thoughtful literature you'll probably love it.

Phaedrus's Handy Guide for Proper Dune Material

Proper Dune Books:

Dune
Dune Messiah
Children of Dune
God Emperor of Dune
Heretics of Dune
Chapterhouse: Dune
(all written by Frank Herbert)

The Dune Encyclopedia
(not by Frank Herbert)

Not Proper Dune Books:

Dune: House Atreides
Dune: House Harkonnen
Dune: House Corrino
Dune: The Butlerian Jihad
Dune: The Machine Crusade
Dune: The Battle of Corrin
Hunters of Dune
Sandworms of Dune
(all by a pair of hacks, one bearing the Herbert name, and the other whose name is unspeakable, but here's a hint: KJA)

Half Proper, Half Not Proper Dune Books

Road to Dune
(Some content by Frank Herbert, but also with a good chunk by the new authors. I'd stay away from it, unless I could find it used, but that's true of anything that gives the HLP profit.)

Eyes High, we welcome you.
