Oh dear...

Not a stupid person, but still a poop-head. I do find it interesting that he
ascribes an egotistical element to FH's motivations for writing Dune. He also
seems to have some unrealistic expectations.

You decide.

Wow. I'm not even going to go into the many points that guy completely missunderstood. I agree that FH had some flaws in his writing, but not the ones this guy brings up... those are imaginary. I don't know what he missed to think that the fremen follow Paul because he "waves around a ring". Sheesh.

He took a pretty narrow approach to the book, didn't he? I doubt he ever considered that he should try to shed his own notions of current soicety before trying to read a book set 30K in teh future.

I know exactly what he's talking about.

The chapter before Paul takes the WoL, when the Fremen expect Paul to call out Stilgar, he shows them the Ducal signet ring and says he's the rightfull ruler of Arrakis.

But that's not why they follow him, it's because he fufilled the prophecies.

Same blog post as the one in my original post, hosted at a different sit, with

I wonder who he is referring to when he says various groups have taken Dune for something other than fiction?

It's all your WoW's fault, Phaedrus! :P

Is it the "open door" policy for the site-crashing malfunctioning?
