I thought it was interesting that Kim is the sole franchise owner of the board game (Has anyone heard this before?).

From the index of Dreamer of Dune, p. 567 (paperback):
Herbert, Brian Patrick (son)
—alcoholism, 201, 211, 220, 221, 226
Fourth full paragraph, p. 201:
At the age of sixteen I started drinking with friends, and experienced several near misses with death, invariably involving cars and alcohol. On occasion my parents had to bail me out of jail, where I had been placed in the drunk tank. The last time this happened, my mother said to me, "I've cried my last tear for you." As a result of a number of open confrontations between me and my father, she also told me that if she had to choose between us, she would choose him.
Beginning of last paragraph, p. 211:
When I was at Berkeley between 1964 and 1968, I was in the college drinking crowd, a binge drinker. Perhaps this explains why I heard very little mentioned about Dune or Frank Herbert. ...
Beginning of 2nd full P, p. 220:
The parents of my girlfriend, Jan Blanquie, did not approve of me because of my drinking habits, so that summer she and I eloped to Reno and were married. ...
Last P, p. 221:
Jan was pregnant, and needed to learn how to drive a car to get back and forth to her doctor's appointments. My license had been suspended for a plethora of tickets and alcohol-related accidents, and I was hitchhiking to my busboy job at a restaurant in San Rafael and to school in Berkeley. ...
Next to last P, p. 226:
In taking this course he lost the affection of his sons. We didn't bond with him. He wasn't our role model. I nearly killed myself with alcohol. My younger brother, believing his father disliked him, was experimenting with drugs and homosexuality. Of his children, only Penny did not have strong feelings of antipathy toward him.
Okay, so you tell me: problem with alcohol (and all the rest that implies) or not? He (presumably) uses the word "alcoholism" in the index.

QED, by his own words.

I have my doubts that she actually is. Either she's the one they contacted, or she's the business persona of the HLP, much like Byron is the online persona.

Makes sense, since she's one of the two that have shown face online.

She's kinda like the acting office secretary, no?

She's the one Omph was in contact with back when he was exchanging messages with the HLP about some site ideas, if I'm not mistaken.

The person who wrote the article simply didn't fact-check well enough. Bad bad bad.

The couple of times I contacted the HLP it was to talk to Brian, through Kim. She always seems to be the first contact.

She was Brian's secretary when I ran those ideas past the HLP. But prior versions of her My Space page indicated (indicated, but did not say) that her siblings were too drunk/young to be interested in the family business, and that she was being groomed to run things. I think her and Byron are gonna get the reins once Tweedledrunk dies.

There is no glimmer. The online petition, like all online petitions, is a bit of a joke and has been/will continue to be universally ignored by the HLP.

Fantasy Flight is moving full-speed ahead with this project, and it will be set in the TI universe. Whether or not that's a good thing is open to debate ... a lot of which can be found at Boardgame Geek.

No, you need to stop it. It's old, not funny and in most places criminal.

Go spout your death threats somewhere else.

I just corrected the Wikipedia article for Brian. It has, for quite a while, said that Brian and Jan had only one daughter, Kim. I found the names of the other two daughters in Dream of Dune. In order of birth, they are

Julie, Kim, and Margaux Beverly.

Had to laugh at this, p. 349 (emphasis added):
On Saturday, November 28, 1981, I worked on The Garbage Chronicles until 2:00 A.M. At 5:45 A.M., Jan woke me up, saying she was experiencing labor pains. Margaux Beverly Herbert was born at 10:36 A.M., with no medication. Nine pounds, six ounces! In the past few days we had decided on the French name Margaux (pronounced "Margo") for a girl, in honor of my maternal grandmother, Marguerite, who went by the name of Margo. With my mother in mind we selected the middle name of Beverly. Of course, Jan and I also had in mind the wonderful bottles of Margaux wine that we had shared with my parents.
He named his youngest daughter, in part, after wine.

HE NAMED HIS FRICKING DAUGHTER AFTER WINE!!! AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

hic!

'Scuse me!

This paragraph shows perfectly why I've never been able to read the book all the way through: it's just so damned badly written.

She was born..., with no medication. Yes, some babies do come with a silver spoon in their mouth, but not often do they pop out toting drugs. (Maybe he was hoping?)

In the past few days.... Huh...here lately? NO: In the previous few days.

Was it really necessary for this clod (or claude?) to point out how Margaux should be pronounced? (Maybe he thought it was "Margoks" the first time he saw it?)

Ah...I've spoiled the laugh buzz. :(

Well Chig, I think it's safe to say that Brian is not a confidence-inspirer. Is
that an understatement?

I think I'd probably feel fairly confident asking his advice on, say, oh...a good table wine or the best cocktail or quickest hangover remedy.

Y'all are brutal. For some reason I make that typo almost every time. Usually I catch it, but I'm busy at work today.

Ha ha ha. That's really funny.

I heard on CNN yesterday afternoon that another dirty Yidsraeli Rambo ran amuck on some poor unarmed Palestians.

Now you come back with some stupid comment and I either respond or not.

Blah blah blah.

It's gotten old, Orald. The anti-Arab/Palestian crap you spew everywhere is just OLD. We get you don't like them.

Do you get that you're JUST LIKE them?
