By the source material the Sand Trout where planted on Dune but came from some unknown planet. If the Dune story is in the future the the Sand Trout came from this planet but it looks like someone is changing the future because Sea Worms was seeded on this planet too and that wasn't supposed to happen.
Just say it was a miracle that will save this planet.
I think this planet isn't Earth. Battlestar Galactica explains the different Earths pretty will and what are Angels.
