Hey Guys

Post by EDX »

I'm probabally a bit below the age of most of this forum's users... I'm 16 years old and for my sophmore year I did book reports on both Dune and Dune Messiah... I'm currently reading Children of Dune now. I've haven't read any science fiction that has been so thought-provoking, save Huxley's Brave New World.

I found another person at my school who read the original Dune, but preferred the prequels better... From what I've seen that's not a popular opinion among most fans. I'm going to read through Herbert's books before I check out the prequels and sequels... From what I've heard, it may not be worth my time.

Anywho, I look forward to discussing the Dune series with you all!

You're off to an excellent start in life :) Welcome to the forums. I'm currently on Children of Dune myself (only my second reading in about 15 years) and I enjoyed Dune Messiah much more than the first time I read it long ago. I can't remember how old I was when I first read "Dune" but it was somewhere around high school/early college.

Welcome.

Just so you know, many of us have read and reread FH's works several times, and still wonder what he really was trying to say.

Ahh, to be 16 again...

If you absolutely have to read Dune Lite (aka the prequels, sequels, inquels, or anything with KJA on the cover), just make sure you remove all blunt objects out of arms reach before doing so. A padded room might help as well.

Seriously though, enjoy the journey as there is nothing else like it.

Welcome to Jacurutu EDX. I wish I was reading Dune again for the first time.

I haven't bothered with any of the new crap. I don't feel like banging my head against the wall.

OMG, no! Now he's ruined his chronology! He should've read the Legends novels, followed by the House, originals and sequels!

Or waited reading it all until P&B finished wiping the "interquels" off their asses so he could read them all in order.

Heh... seems like the prequels aren't that popular. What I've read so far has I loved, and I love how thought-prevoking this stuff is. I really like the idea of gholas, the concept had led me to have many philisophical arguments within myself.

Dune's probabally the only book where I can't answer the question, "What's it about?" And that's a good thing.

Welcome!! I'm not quite as harsh as Orald (A great deal more treacherous though  ), but you should take your prequelite friend out behind the school and beat the crud out of him :D

Seriously though, as Crys said, good call on reading the originals first! And welcome to our humble community!
