has a map of the pre scattering 'universe' of planets been compiled?

the history means there was a great deal of regular interstellar travel going on for quite some time before the guild had the chance to take such flight over.

dune and most of the planets in contact pre the spacing guild must of have been in close proximity which allowed for reasonable safe transits before navigators had gotten their feet under them

after the guild gained monopoly additional worlds could have been far outside this but before the spices distribution i would think they would have had to been in relative close proximity

wondered if anyone has ever proposed a map of the imperium which reflects this...

I don't see any reason to believe that computers couldn't have done just as well pre-jihad. The question perhaps is whether there was a down period between the jihad and some point after that where the quality of space travel went down considerably before the Guild was able to up their game.

In reality there could have been other populated worlds within the sphere of the Empire's radius, just secret and unknown to the Great Houses. No one would ever know they were there, it's not like they had interstellar scanners. It just meant they would have no trade or interaction with the Imperium.

The only stars that could be included would be ones specifically mentioned in the book. It wouldn't be too many.

But it's not meaningful. Frank Herbert picked star names because he liked the sound or meaning of the names, not with any thought to the interstellar geometry of the Empire: in the Analog version of Dune (Dune World), he has Leto state that "Arrakis is almost directly across the galaxy from Caladan," when in fact their stars are only 300 LY apart (out of the Milky Way's 100,000 LY diameter), in the same part of the galaxy (our neighborhood, so to speak). There is also widely varying information about e.g. the number of planets in the Empire. This is not the sort of thing Frank Herbert meticulously worked out.
