Music Tastes

Post by A Thing of Eternity »

I'm curious to see if there is any commonalities between Dune fans and Music.
I'm personally a Guitarist / Audio Engineer, and while music that I like spans alot of genres from Jazz to celtic, classical to indian, my main love will always be metal. Not so much the Motly Crue hair metal (though I do enjoy it) I prefer the more epic/hardcore stuff, everything from classics such as Iron Maiden to modern Metal such as In Flames. Also a big Hardcore fan now that I think of it.

Right there with you, dude.

Keep it rock, and keep it hard. I also play Guitar but I'm not that great. I used to sing in a band...did that for about 4 years.

But I think you'll find many here with differing tastes.

Primarily heavy metal but I like all rock and roll. I also like classical.

Rap, hip-hop and country make me angry and violent.

I like music from Mozart to Metallica. It depends on the time of day, year or any other circumstance.

I like a variety of styles, but I particularly like hard rock--especially "stoner rock" (Kyuss, QOTSA, etc.) and old grunge. I also love reggae.

Absolutely not! This community has a very unhealthy obsession with bad music, like Rush! GAHHHH! :) :P

Maybe I can help put this thread to rest.

Pearl Jam
The Pixies/Frank Black
Living Colour
White Stripes
Pearl Jam
Bob Dylan
Nirvana
Rage Against the Machine
Pearl Jam

Maybe Fugazi and a couple others, but that's pretty much it.

No Metallica, Rush or about a thousand other bands I hate.

I like the 80s hair bands, and grunge.. I still love Alice in Chains and the old Stone Temple Pilots. There are some newer songs that I like but I can't think of the names.

Well, at least we can agree on your list of bands, except for Jay Z (I don't like ego/bling hip-hop, but I don't mind the political/social stuff) Greenday (opposite, since their political stuff is so shallow I actually prefer the songs they wrote about nothing) and the White Stripes (do I really need to explain why I don't like them?).
Noticed the Tragically Hip in there (whome I love), you from Canada?

One of the proud and few :) Currently in Toronto, but I'm a native born Alberta boy. There's a bunch of Canuck music I love. Broken Social Scene, Feist, The Hip and The Tea Party are all Canuck artists I like.

I'm currently living in Vancouver, just moved here from Edmonton. Where in Alberta are you from? I'm not Tea Party Fan, not their fault though, it's just a taste thing.

Hey, Canada just bought some very nice antique subs from Britain, and I think they've even got them fixed up so they can go under water now! No seriously, we make fun of our troops but they're actually very well trained, just not so well equiped. I'd make some other comments but this isn't a political forum, I'd rather discuss Dune than politics here.
I'm assuming most of the people on this site are Yankees? (hey, you called us Canucks!)

Don't despair. Military budgets have been increasing dramatically with the last two Federal governments and all indications are it's going to increase even more significantly. There's calls for new white papers and several major materiel purchases on the way. We could be looking at a return to 50-60's era funding, which would be great.

Our troops are some of the best in the world. As they say, the worlds greatest army is British officers commanding Canadian soldiers armed with American Equipment :)

Hit the nail on the head. Speaking of US equipment, anyone seen the designs for the Bomber loaded laser canon that can melt a tank? Was in popular science last month. Scary ass shit.
