A "Top 5" thread
Since we like making lists and all. Top 5, Top 10, whatever.
The Top 5 Funniest Scenes in Movie History
in no particular order
1. The "rumble" scene from Anchorman.
Yes, that's right, Anchorman. I normally cringe at Will Farrel movies, but this one was awesome. When the NPR people showed up, then the Spanish guys, I about lost it.
2. Nigel Tufnell plays "Lick My Love Pump" in This Is Spinal Tap.
This scene was all of 45 seconds, but Guest's delivery was superb. This movie alone could account for about 10 spots in the list.
3. "If we built a large wooden badger" from Holy Grail.
Another movie with multiple candidates, but that scene always tickled me.
4. John Belushi and Carrie Fischer in Blues Brothers.
Belushi pleading for his life in the sewer, then dropping Carrie Fischer in the mud/shit was priceless.
5. Gen. 'Buck' Turgidson in Dr. Strangelove
"Sir, you can't let him in here. He'll see everything. He'll see the big board!"
And I'm sure I've overlooked 10 or 20 other worthy scenes. Ah well.

1. The life of Brian- Brian gets a Latin grammer lesson from a roman soldier.
2. Monty Python and the Holy Grail- Either the opening scene with the swallows or the french taunting.
*Starting to get short of funny, memorable scenes, as I have a shitty memory if I'm asked such a general question and need to search my entire "data base" to come up with stuff*

In memory of Perach, who suffered and died needlessly.

The problem is I'm not too good at such general questions about, say "what movies you like?". I'm better at answering "did you like *insert name*?".
IDK, maybe my hard-disk is too big and my search option is too slow.
That's why I have some difficulty in answering questions about my policy in some areas- I'd rather answer to specific points.
Also, perhaps I just don't care much for alot of funny scenes. There are amusing scenes, but not too many ROFLMAO scenes, and I get fuzzy on "stupid" funny scenes like in American Pie etc, which might be funny for the moment, but aren't memorable.

I loved the one in The Meaning of Life where "monsieur" gets a wafer-thin mint.orald wrote:1. The life of Brian- Brian gets a Latin grammer lesson from a roman soldier.

Funny you should mention that. I remembered and got to thinking about that project this morning while reading before crawling out of the futon.Omphalos wrote:Maybe Shirley should become the avatar of the Ander-Bot.

Just watching SW ep.3(Revenge of The Sith) for the first time, and I gotta say, this movie is full of hilarious moments...though I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be dramatic.
I think Heyden(sp?) rolled a natural 3 on his acting skill.
At least I can fast-forward the icky, horriblly acted, romantic scenes.

I think Portman deserves an award or two for that alone.orald wrote:At least I can fast-forward the icky, horriblly acted, romantic scenes.

(Hey, I didn't know she's half Israeli. Shows how much attention I pay to actors, huh?)

I saw lots of refrences to those sticky scenes in comics, but until now I couldn't fully enjoy them.
And when Obi says "I have the high ground" all I could do is giggle and think of http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=150.
To think I had to wait 2 hours, 8 minutes and 49 seconds to hear him utter his infamous "nooooo!".
BTW, she moved away to the states when she was a little girl IIRC, so I'm not sure how "Israeli" she is.

(I meant only that one of her parents (her father) is Israeli, not anything about how Israeli she is, 'cause I don't know and don't care. Evidently she's a tree-hugger for real, tho, so maybe that explains how she could act with what's-his-face. )

Though I enjoyed SW II and III, I do get a big laugh out of the (often deserved) fanboy bashing of the films I sure hope you guys have seen "The Editing Room". The abridged scripts are brilliant

You seem worried about Natalie dying. Also, you’re confused about being a Jedi.
HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN
(furrowing his brow)
They don’t want me to fuck Natalie Portman. That’s insanity. Did you see her in Closer? Holy fuck.

the sad part is that hayden is really a good actor..he was nominated for a golden globe for his made for tv movie "life as a house"...and he won other awards for that performance..the truth is that George Lucas is terrible at writing dialogue ...and even worse directing ... i thought natalie portman was worse in episode 3 than him...he was worse in episode 2 ...but george lucas obviously has a talent for taking good actors and making them lay turds on film
(on a side note.... george lucas gets a piece from almost every pie that comes out of hollywood...cant player hate a guy who has done so much for film that he makes money off of basically every movie made)

Tyrant, "life as a house"...was that the one with Kevin Kline as the father dying of cancer trying to reconnect with his estranged son?
I saw that one; wasn't too bad.

I think I heard she isn't a bad actress either(never heard anything about Hayden), and sure as hell there were other fine and proven actors in that movie who either didn't get much to do or just plain bad lines.
Obi Wan's actor(forgot his name, can't bother to check) is a very nice actor(and quite cute too, with the beard maybe even more, and I'm not really a beard person), but he gets shit to say.
I can complain on lots of stuff in that movie, but this isn't the place.
