The boards farted earlier today. Everything is back up and running. We dont know what happened. Something just took the entire machine offline, but all sites housed here are now good to go.

Problem with the (Javascript) edit buttons?

Posted: 19 Feb 2009 17:10
by SandChigger
I've mentioned this in passing before, but this time remembered to save a copy of what's happening for posting here. ;)

Whenever I highlight something and then use the Font size pull down menu, as soon as I click anywhere in the window (not just the edit field), the boardware puts in this garbage I then have to delete for the tags to work right. Here's what it looks like:

Code: Select all

THE AIRBRUSH DIET!!!
That should look like this:

Code: Select all

THE AIRBRUSH DIET!!!
For some reason it always sticks in a size=0 tag at the beginning, followed with the size close in the middle of the text.

Maybe have Ragabash look into it? I'm using Safari, different versions on different machines, different OS versions on two of them, and it happens in every one. Haven't checked in Firefox or OmniWeb, etc.

It only happens with the size and font color menus, all the other edit buttons work fine, so it's not a big problem or an urgent. Just an annoyance now and then. ;)

I had some problems with all that, too, figgered it was just my internet
ignorance - started just handcoding all HTML tags - I type pretty good
when I'm a little buzzed ...

Ive submitted this to our own personal IT department. Just as soon as Ragabash prioritizes his action items, I'm sure we can get this addressed.

(Again, it's not a major problem, just an occasional minor annoyance. ;) )

Hey, what the fuck?!

I just tried doing several different searches of topic titles for "Jessica" and got this bullshit response:
Information

The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: jessica.
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards.
Is there a list of search-excluded words that needs to be zapped or something?

Maybe someone has "Jessica" in their signature and you got too many hits?

There is not. Its the board doing its thing. Wasn't aware that happened.

Edit: It might actually be a bug. I searched for "Jessica Atreides," and got a result with 664 hits, some of which only had the term "Atreides," which means that the result pool was larger than merely for "Jessica." Hmmmmm.

General Error

SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

Table './jacurutu_bb3/jacurutu_phpbb_search_wordmatch' is marked as crashed and should be repaired [145]

An SQL error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact the Board Administrator if this problem persists.
For search.php

OK, Search is definitely broken now.

(And, sorry, but it was before the server problem, too. "Jessica" is not a common word and it shouldn't occur too many times on this board for the software to return any data at all. :( )

Did you try the search again? Ive had this screen come up a few times in the last few days, but submitting the page always cleared it up. Its on the (long fucking) list.

As to the other problem, I became aware of it when you said it the last time. Its on the list too.

Yeah, I tried it several times. :(

And since I was getting the error display from the search.php page itself, I tried resending the form and eventually got the advanced search page; but it errored out, too. I was trying to find that post where I'd told Schu about the real meaning of the Kanji in that FishSpeakerLover's avatar image over on DN, so the word I was searching for was "FishSpeakerLover". I know there aren't too many posts with that in them. ;)

Here's the URL of the search:

search.php?keywords=FishSpeakerLover&te ... mit=Search" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks; knowing it's on the list is good for now. :)
