A question of names

Post by Naïve mind »

For a piece of fan fiction I'm writing, I'm considering a Bene Gesserit character who, essentially, works for something that would be called "the Eugenics Department", or "the Department of Blood lines" in a modern bureaucracy.

I think it's obvious that the Bene Gesserit are interested in these issues, and I think it's very justifiable to assume that they would have specialists in charge of refining traits and planning marriages.

Would they call it "the department of Blood lines", though? I'm on the fence myself. On the one hand, the BG seem to like shrouding themselves in ritual and tradition and the supernatural. On the other hand, this is clearly an act for the benefit of outsiders; more than any other organisation in the Books, the BG seem to be staunch materialists.

The only hint we get at BG titulature are names like 'Proctor Superior', in combination with the vaguely Roman-sounding names of their members.

Any thoughts here?
