DuneSE (84Lynch Fan Edit)

this was briefly mentioned in the Dune Facebook thread last year,
but not discussed again, AFAICS (As Far As I Could Search) ....
I ran across the blahgsplat in a gooooogle image-search
(BTW, Omph, your Poison! avatar (w/ jacurutu link) is showing up
in all kinds of Dune-related image-searches ....)

I haven't been thru alot of the blahg, and the kid's got a ton of clips
on his Utube .... dunno if it's any good or not, I think what's got me
interested is One: who is this kid and why isn't he here in the sietch?
and Two: my semi-new and occasional engaging hobby of 3D model
rendering .... ( I started awhile back to seriously work on a
Torus Cardigan of the Imperial Argosy complete story, but as
I was building space ships and "sci-fi" scenes, I started to really understand
how the lighting effects worked, and ended up making some god-damn
beautiful pics .... really too good to use for Spanky McDune satire)(and
I will admit, for a brief moment, I thought I was James C. Harwood)

anyway, if there's interest, kick it around;
if not, kick it back ...

wish I had that kind of talent, have the things in my head the way the should be, at least in my vision.
I give the guy 5 out of 5 Lasguns!! for the effort and dedication. True fan.

I didnt care for the Ornithopter, but thats his vision of one, and its cool.

The rest looked pretty decent. Hope he continues. A visual representation of Dune, is cool with me.

I don't condone the ornithopter 2.0 however, as an upgrade, he did better than Lynch.

BTW, I found the thought of a giant scallop flapping 'thopter wings to be a charming idea. Having to trim said scallop back as it grows, abominable.

On a distantly related note;
http://www.warpdriveprops.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
For me, this is about the first real step toward a flapping metal wing. The site only touches briefly on the main selling point- a calibrated warpage design- giving you a 'constant speed' like performance w/out using some mutation of Watts flyball governer. Merely believing they could make the idea work shows major nuttage.
So, at high RPM the blade angle 'flattens out' for climb performance, and 'relaxes' to a more aggressive angle at cruise RPM. To have two or more blades do this consistantly, over thousands of hours- mind you, a small variation between blades could cause catastrophic failure- is the first step toward the interlocking metal leaves of a thopter wing. It is worth noting that we still have a long way to go and i'm not clear about the advantages of getting there- untill we find the giant scallops.

I used to follow this project and actually had a brief correspondence with the man behind it. I related my expectations for such a project, but he seemed intent on only realizing the original vision for the project rather than making modern aesthetic changes (such as digitally removing the Baron's pimples and trimming the scenes that reference them).

I had planned to re-post the project here once it had restarted, but it looks like he hasn't made any updates since I last visited in November.

You've got to respect the amount of hard work he has put into this project, but I don't think I agree with any of his design choices :P

(From his channel it looks like he's got a real job doing budget cgi for tv syfy films - good luck to him)

kinda the way I felt - seems he was more devoted to the 84Lynch instead of Dune itself ...
which is a very different thing ...
