How was that possible?
Keith is a bad writer, but he is successful. Am I wrong? The thought of him being attached to the Dune name.. Rage. Sadness.

If by successful you mean he sells as many books as anything else attached to a IP he didn't make himself.

No one buys a KJA novel. They buy a X IP novel written by Kevin J Anderson, or & Kevin J Anderson.

Exactly.

In my younger days, I bought my fair share of IP books like Star Trek (mostly Next Gen), Aliens, some Star Wars, and Resident Evil (don't flame me for that one lol) also probably some other properties that escape me at the moment and I was never aware of who the author was let alone seek out a book by a particular one.

I still have his X-files novelizations, and I must admit, they are not bad. He says within Mulder and Scully's characters pretty well, and doesn't try to "one-up" the series in coolness or weirdness. I don't recall the writing being terrible, either, but then, I have a higher tolerance for bad writing in novelizations.

I think I've said before that it's this kind of writing he's probably best at - working in an existing franchise that is constrained enough that he can't go too far astray. If he had remained this kind of writer and never done Dune, I'd have probably said "adios" and wished him the best.

I'm still very proud of The Quarry but … let's face it; in the end the real best way to sign off would have been with a great big rollicking Culture novel.

Every one of these characters, and all of these groups, will become enmeshed in the contest between Reason and Faith. All of them will be forced to choose sides in the inevitable crusade that could destroy humankind forever….
except ... well, this is a pre-prequel, so I'm betting "humankind" will survive ....

and I thought it was a "jihad" ... now it's a "crusade" ?

I had two thoughts simultaneously (which almost caused my head to bust wide open, but ...)

1: the obvious (continuation of) the friction between the two;one or the other (or both) has really had enough of being around the
other (or both) ... it could be that Keith's tired of working about Brian's Amtrak schedule, or something ...

but, 2:
is this the opportunity to get Brian separated from Keith in a public forum and possible get some truth, or genuine opinion from him ?

I'd sure like to see that - the exact same question posed to both of them separately and the differences in their answers ...

I still think that Brian is slowly coming to regret all they have added to Dune, especially with Keith's intentions towards the series becoming more and more obvious (cash cow, catapult to stardom/legitimacy).

Agreed, his passive agressive snippets in the last few interviews leave me wondering why he simply won't pull the purse strings snug around kevies neck. Then reality sets in.

Leto II is gone for good, except for OM. The "pearl" was just that; a miniscule portion of what Leto was, and not a compressed version of the whole. The pearl that the worms have do not make them Leto, or in any way similar to him.

I suspect Brian may not like where Dune has gone either. Problem is, he's just a member of the HLP. As far as keeping KJA on board, he is just one of the group that gets to vote on that. All the others could probably care less about Frank's legacy and just want the checks to keep rolling in and I'm sure KJA lobbies and postures to them all the time like "I'm a best selling author ... blah blah... you'll make the most money with me." So the rest of the HLP keep him around. They come off like parasites more than family members.

If Brian and KJA really aren't getting along then Brian needs to grow a backbone and take his name off any further Dune books. But then again, what is the end game after that. Would any reputable author come in now that so much of the backstory of Dune has been FUBAR'd. Because its pretty obvious Brian neither has the confidence himself nor his family's confidence to write the books alone.

Personally if they aren't going to just stop publishing McDune books, I would prefer a scenario where they ditch KJA. Give Dune a rest. Then approach reputable authors and say come do a Dune book in our sandbox. Re-write KJA continuity if you want but just don't change Frank's canon that he's laid down. Otherwise you have free reign and your name is the only one on the book. Brian could act as more of an editor than phantom writing partner. I think truly reputable authors would like that opportunity and we could get some actual original stories in the Dune universe and not the drivel we've gotten over the past decade. But changes of that are slim and none with those greedy shits of the HLP who want to turn Dune into a serialized Star Wars style novelized universe to keep regular checks coming in.

As far as the tour goes. I could care less to go see that moron KJA, but I hope some Cast Outs go to the West Coast dates and grill Brian good about what KJA is trying to do with the retconning in these last several books.

I really have no care to see KJA, even if he's in my neck of the woods. I don't need the temptation to do something stupid/hilarious.

I'd actually like to talk to Brian, but he never comes over here.

That's why I like to bring at least one of my children with me to those things, keeps me from getting arrested.

But, I might not have a choice this time, depends on if it's my weekend or not.

I can't read the link from work, can someone post the contents?
