Lotek, you should maybe team up with Chanilover on this one. Not sure how close to London he is though.

I'm not sure what a good plan would be to straddle the line of putting-Keith-in-his-place and not-getting-kicked-out... Maybe just bug him to publish the notes again? Or maybe focus on Hellhole or Terra Incognita, and how much they suck.

yeah why not ?
has anyone heard from him lately ?

As for the angle I don't care much about smellhole really, it can't stink away for all eternity, sell or not sell I couldn't care less.

Dune is an entirely different matter.

I'd like to find a way to ask the hack something he will know is a jibe at mcdune but cannot be called as such without admitting they suck.

Yes, I know I'm asking a lot but aren't we full of evil geniuses here ?

I'll only be able to leave work at 4am though so I hope he stays there long enough for me to get to FP.

It will be tough to prepare any props so I'll have to rely on my wits(in other words I'm fucked)

It probably won't mean anything to Anderhack, but you could always remind him that he has damp hands. It shouldn't immediately get you thrown out...

"Because I feel a great affinity for the great English writer Charles Dickens," Anderson told the people gathered at the Norwich Waterstones to take advantage of a beginning of the month sale, "I've decided to commemorate my first full frontal foray into the horror/mystery genre with a new novel featuring Dickens as the central character..."

I actually considered it might be real that's how much trust I have in the hack's capacity for raping the classics...

And it seems I won't make it to the book signing of smell hole...

Yeah, I tried a couple of different things, like "Anderson told Norwich Waterstones shoppers obviously trying to ignore him," but liked the version I went with best. ;)

Keith's just blogged about attending the SFX Weekender - he sat next to China Mieville on a panel, would love to have heard their small talk!

Keith - "I've never actually managed to finish one of your books."
China - "Not bothered, mate, I've never started one of yours!"

Decent panel, all-in-all - Stephen Baxter, Peter F. Hamilton, Gary Gibson, China Mieville...and Keith :?

Seeing as Mieville and Kevin are coming up in the same breath, can someone explain to me what the phrase "critical darlings" even means?

Small desk in a badly lit corner...I can only imagine people walking by:

"Hi, I'm Kevin J Anderson!"

"Who?"

"Don't you mean 'And Kevin J Anderson?'"

"oh so this isn't the info desk? I was confused because there is no line and the only people here getting things signed are people who work here."

"Critical darlings" is the term Keith uses to describe people who actually craft their writing and win all the awards with their measly one book while his yearly half-dozen are produced on-time and hit the bestseller lists and have probably never even made it onto a short list for a prize of any seriousness.

Translation: Pasty White Hack Complains about Merit based Awards.

here you go AKJA, i here by award you the WORLD'S FIRST HUGE-O award for the largest library of soon to be forgotten books. We've even attached a Golden Cluster to the award which means that your published works have the largest printed to un-read/un-completed ratio of any book published this year! CONGRATULATIONS KEITH!
