So, I've been re-watching Firefly lately and remembering how much I love it. Anybody else a fan?

I liked it quite a bit. The first episode really dragged but from about episode 3-4 on it was really great. Loved the movie too.

Who that has actually watched it, doesn't like it? Undoubtedly there's someone, but whoever it is would be in the vast minority I'd think, and clearly couldn't appreciate the rare bit of good television production.

The scripts were good, but it was the acting that sold it. I always thought that Whedon's greatest strength was good casting and then setting his actors up to be able to deliver. The scriptwriting was good in the big picture, and in the witty dialogue/amusing situations, but that's not worth much unless you have the right person making it seem genuine & believable.

I found the premise to be promising but ultimately poorly executed, while the world itself was filled with Whedon's usual issues with dialogue and poor characters. I mean, really, does every one of his works have to feature some kind of "broken" girl that's secretly a badass? Or are constantly barefoot because he has a foot fetish?

And, of course, the backstory of China and the U.S. forming an alliance and colonizing many worlds together... Yet there's not a single Asian cast member and the only Mandarin they speak is generally broken swear words used out of context.

I think there's a reason all of Whedon's shows get canceled.

This is actually the first Whedon show I watched and I liked it, coming from a totally fresh perspective.

Most defs. A tight-knit cast (and crew- we rock!) definitely make a good production.

y'all need a consensus, here ...

I watched the movie based on the series awhile back, and while
I don't really remember a damn thing from it,
I remember as being tolerable ... unlike, say, any "original" SyFy movie ...

but now with the high-speed internet, I have the option of watching
all kinds of stuff, at a time of my own choosing - and all the FireFly
episodes are one of them ...

so, is it worth my time, or should I just watch 9 songs on netflix again ?

@omph - this a pointless, horrible movie, but it can only be categorized as "porn";
and not softcore, either ....

I'd be interested to hear opinions on the movie Serenity. As a fan of the tv show I loved it, but I got the impression it might not do much for people who hadn't seen the show.

IIRC I saw the movie before I'd seen any of the show episodes. I liked it even though I didn't have all the background info available to a regular viewer, so a lot of it was just plain weird.

(The neatest weird thing for me, of course, was all the Chinese. )

Same here. My wife owned and loved the movie before we got married, so I suggested that we watch through the series. I liked it well enough; it's good television as television goes. Wife loved the hell out of it. I think Joss Whedon's done pretty good, but I have to get past all his fanboy/fangirls to appreciate his work.

I liked the show better. Just downloaded the TV show the other day, as a matter of fact.
