So i assume the Spacing Guild navigators are junkies to Melenge for it mutates them from OD'ing on that stuff, i wonder what Melenge tastes like. Cinneamon, Paprika etc.?

He shrugged. "Futility." He glanced at her. "Can you remember your first
taste of spice?"
"It tasted like cinnamon."
"But never twice the same," he said. "It's like life--it presents a
different face each time you take it. Some hold that the spice produces a
learned-flavor reaction. The body, learning a thing is good for it, interprets
the flavor as pleasurable--slightly euphoric. And, like life, never to be truly
synthesized."

MELANGE: the "spice of spices," the crop for which Arrakis is the unique source.
The spice, chiefly noted for its geriatric qualities, is mildly addictive when
taken in small quantities, severely addictive when imbibed in quantities above
two grams daily per seventy kilos of body weight. (See Ibad, Water of Life, and
Pre-spice Mass.) Muad'Dib claimed the spice as a key to his prophetic powers.
Guild navigators make similar claims. Its price on the Imperial market has
ranged as high as 620,000 Solaris the decagram.

A "hardcore Dune fan" would at least GET THE FUCKING SPELLING RIGHT.

Use your spellchecker, and make it learn the Dune vocabulary. Your posts will at least seem a bit less idiotic without the spelling errors.

You ASSUME the navigators are addicted to the spice? Man, that's one of the hardest points to miss in the books, they have to float in spice gas, and pop spice pills every minute or so. OF COURSE they're spice addicts! (Also could you please slow down and spell melange right at least once? It's driving me nuts EDIT: I see Chig beat me to that point!).

But they have it under control, it's just recreational usage, nothing serious.

Anyone with blue eyes is a spice junkie. All the fremen, Paul, everyone.

Well, let's give Harry credit for one thing: it's his first-ever post here that didn't mention 15 movies no one cares about.

People couldn't start their own self-introduction threads that way...

Come on, things aren't so bad that we have to start automatic censoring, are they?

Chig just made essentially the post I was coming here to make. Lighten up, it's not so bad that the odd dumbass starts a few threads.

Innocent until proven guilty. If y'all insist on something like this, then do it the opposite way, once someone proves they cannot be responsable with creating new threads, then remove that ability. Until then, I don't see the point of doing something that just makes us look even more hostile to new members than we are.

the work the admins have to do knocking out Singapore Spammers doesn't equal
the inhospitably to new recruits of not allowing them to post as soon as they have

I'm not entirely opposed to the idea. If I could figure out how to do it.
The new version of the boardware gives us the option of corralling all the new members one place and one place only that they can post for a certain number of posts. Ragabash and I are discussing when we can make time to upgrade this place. If that is something that the board wants, its simple enough to turn it on after upgrade.

Or Freak, are you moving posts on us? I'm like going through the db logs wondering if the fucking board is broken.

There's a big difference, IMHO, between someone dependent (or even psychologically addicted) on a substance and someone who is a full-blown junkie in the sense that they'll prostitute their own mother for a fix. So while the Guild certainly will go to great lengths to preserve their spice supply....throwing around words like "junkie" isn't a very good way of the describing their dependence on melange.
