well, hello Brian!
good to see you ...

came out from under the rock just to school me,
or honestly being helpful ?

either way, yeah, "semiannual" is probably the word I'm looking for,
but all the dictionaries give both definitions for "biannual" -
twice yearly and every-other-year ...

so I could use "semiannual" (but that really doesn't in and of itself indicate twice-yearly,
w/o a definition-check; you could take that to mean simply "more than once a year", but maybe
most people wouldn't) but "biannual" could be taken either way ...

anyway, glad to know you're still lurking ...
how're things over the KJASF ?
wanna give us an update or post some of the content ?

or if you've come to your senses and don't hang out there any more,
you could PM your password ... I promise I won't post anything bad ...

[edit]
the word is Biennial,
but that just sucks & looks stupid ...
[/edit]

I personally feel that this message board, Jacurutu, is full of hateful folks who don't know
how to fully interact with people.

Just answering your question - no more or less.

here is your definition check - http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/semiannual" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Just catching up on some reading here...

Read #5 and tell us honestly that that author wouldn't have been better than KJA. :lol:

I'm up for twice a year if we can keep the turnout so good. Next time I might actually get something done myself.

Also, I agree that if we did it more often we could try to go more specific with themes. Dune 7 would be extremely difficult, we've seen what happens when other people BS that and it turns into gibberish - might work in short stories though, I'd love to see Tleszer try and tackle a scene of Daniel and Marty, I think he just might be able to pull it off. :D

The Butlerian Jihad would be excellent. Excellent.

And yes, all us judges need to get on top of that feedback we promised. I have my notes that I took while making my judgement, but I need to write them up in ways that make more sense. (CL's entry I literally have just "WTF?" written down, that is all!)

biannual vs. biannually ? WTF?
Twice a year is Semiannual

I've always preferred to use the 'semiannual' because it made more sense to me when referring to twice a year.

the way I remembered it:
semi = half
bi = two

so when I hear biannually I automatically think of every two years. (Yeah I know that might be wrong, but that's what pops into my head)

Biennial is for something that is supposed to last for 2 years, or happens every other year...

I think semiannual is the best term for what you are describing...

Semi works. Twice anual is the clearest thing, doesn't seem like too much work to type to me.

Feedback would be appreciated. As Tleszer said... there is always room for improvement. While I had fun writing the story I was in no way satisfied with the overall flow and for lack of a better word 'style' of the words. While imitation may well be the sincerest form of flattery, trying to capture the essence of FH's writing is a daunting task. I think I managed a few of the listed criterion rather well, those being: originality, creativity, and characterization. But, plotting and various technical aspects were lacking. Constructive criticism is always welcome, and I look forward to it.

I'd never have gone into the kitchen if I couldn't stand the heat. So fire away boys and gals. :)

This is what kept your story out of the top 3 for me in all honesty, though obviously 3 other judges thought quite differently! I got to the point where I actually felt I was missing some important points of the story because I was thinking too much about the writing - especially after seeing other people rank it so much higher I know I must have missed something.

What I'll probably do is start with some general comments for the storys, then if the authors want I can get a lot more specific. I think it'll be ages before we see the discussion in this sub-forum die down, there's a lot of entries and a lot to discuss.

I know at least one author that wants details.

I love this idea because its a good way to spend time on this forum talking about what we loved about Dune and being constructive about it. Not that I don't enjoy relentlessly mocking the Hack.

I really wanted to submit something but I had a huge writers block on what to actually cover. Kudos to everyone who submitted and grats to the winners, I'm off to read them now!

Cool, if you are then definitely feel free to discuss what comments are up.

EDIT: Got your PM. Would you be okay with moving some of that discussion out into the forums (in your story's thread) for other people to join in on? If you prefer to just discuss with me via PM that's perfectly fine of course.
