Funny, true story of my Dune-y life....

Some day, I think I might just be host to a Jacurutu gathering.....why?

Because, I live near the Desert of Maine (which I call Little Arrakis), and my family's ancestral home is on the end of a half-mile-long point in the middle of a big lake in New Hampshire about 90mins drive from here, surrounded by lush mountains ("Castle Caladan"). An Orthodox-Dune-head gathering starting at one of those places and 'making a pilgrimage' to the other would be, well, novel at a minimum....goofiness aside.

Even better, just around the corner from my house, check out what I snapped some pictures of today while I had my daughter out for a short walk (gotta love arthritis!) in the Chariot:

And next to it, this sign, which immediately made me think "The Shortening of the Private Way".....

....I know, goofy joke. But I knew you guys would get a kick out of this. 8)

I'm just getting started. People who follow my socialnet feeds know that I'm constantly making Dune references in my everyday life. The freaky part is they keep showing up in the objective universe around me with spooky frequency....

I'll take some more pics in a day or two when I get a chance to drag my arthritic arse further down Dune Drive 8-)

Keep on trucking my man. Looking forward to those pictures.

We really do have to have a Great Convention one day, I know it's been talked about a bunch of times. It's tough with us all so spread out, and most of us have families that can't just be abandoned... I'd seriously host the thing but I'm certainly not one of the more central members (not as bad as Chig though!).

That's nice, we have Sackville Lane/Avenue a mile or so north of us. :) You need to zoom in a couple of levels before the name shows.

We have a Spicy Jane Lane near us. Although I doubt they were thinking of the same type of spice when name the road

I'm guessing there was a house of ill repute on that road once.

If there is to be a full gathering one day, it must coincide with something that will hold interest for all of us, while giving us all an airtight alibi.

My brother and I are getting a room or two in Reno for the WorldCon there in 2011. There are several of us within spitting distance of Reno.

The story that I've heard behind the name is that when the state came through gather names for all the streets and private lanes (it hasn't been all that long since the 911 system was initiated around here. Just 16 years ago our address was Route 1 Box ### instead of the street address we have now)... well the man who owned that land/dirt driveway wanted to name it after his mother who evidently had a reputation for being kind of fiesty or spicy. Hince Spicy Jane Lane.

Sorry to dash your imaginations.... although there is that story about the 'dog lady' who lived downed in Pumpkintown.....
