Dear Mr. Merrit,Doonnovels Admin Freakin Meow wrote:Sometimes I feel like I'm back in grade school and on the playground: "I've got more friends that you! Nah-nah-nah!" Please guys and gals, lets stick to the core of these things. We all love Dune. It's why we're here. Some love all the books, some don't. Wow. Shocking.
I've always said that this will be the place where Dune fans (ALL DUNE FANS) can come and express their opinions on Dune as long as it didn't insult/attack the authors, the Herbert family, or other users. Some people just never get that. It's okay to disagree. It's not okay to (openly or covertly) attack others. There are message boards where attacks seem welcome, but not here.
A bit higher standard, please.
Thanks.
Higher standard?
The "more friends" approach was the spearhead of the HLP's defense. Funny how that suddenly gets mocked when the argument is turned on you.
But I do agree, lets stick to the core of things because some people just never get it. The core argument that everything else revolves around is we feel deceived. If we feel deceived, then we are the ones insulted first. The burden of proof is on you. Rather than hiding behind copyrights.
(At least Kevin admitted he was targeting his Star Wars fanboys)
If you can understand this, then perhaps you can finally understand how claiming "all opinions are equal" and "let's not have any negativity" after the initial insult sounds cowardly.
Which is why I will always challenge you on these points.
A bit higher standard, please.
Thanks
PS If we are so wrong, then with all the hundreds and thousands of pages of notes, surely it would have been a simple matter to publish in some format a couple sample pages. The OH movement could have been derailed at any time before gathering steam. Instead, after over 10 years, not one single page...not one. Rather, the HLP's fundamental stance is "we claim the 5th amendment least we incriminate ourselves." Meanwhile, any unfriendly comment is whitewashed like you did in your above comment. "All opinions are equal or some like all the books and others don't."(Notice what was slipped in was the books are all equal or canon). This isn't the approach of someone operating from a moral high ground, but someone with something to hide.
