Re: Great Stools of Dune predictions: here we go again!
Aahhhh, I forgot about that little blip in Paul of Dunce. Ever since I read that brain drainer, I've been trying to scrub it from my memory banks. Didn’t they change their name or something so that they could retain their status or something equally as stupid and implausible?
Okay, of course we will hear about the nuking of S.S.
On a side note, I'm reading Dune again and came across a passage where Leto is explaining to Paul (since this “will be [his] first time off planet”) the in and outs of space travel and that Paul should not do anything to jeopardize House Atreides' transport privileges by trying to sneak a peak at a navigator... Leto further explains that no one is allowed off of their own vessel during transport. If this is the case, then why in the prequels and inbetwinkles do the Wayku act like flight attendants in common areas of guild ships....why are there common areas and how do these WayKewl spread the Bronso Manifesto if no one is allowed off of their own ship?

Anything Dune not written by Frank Herbert is simply Fan Fiction.

Paul of Dune was so bad it gave me a seizure that dislocated both of my shoulders and prolapsed my anus.

Because Kevin J. Anderprick has no imagination.Unfront wrote:... then why in the prequels and inbetwinkles do the Wayku act like flight attendants in common areas of guild ships ...
All he can do is take the contemporary things he sees around him and add a few SF-sounding words around them. Thus, shopping malls in space ... circuses and entertainment that are exactly like their modern versions ... and your example: Guild ships that are pretty much just the Pacific Princess.
"Anything I write will be remembered and listed in bibliographies on Dune for several hundred years ..." — some delusional halfwit troll.

I am reminded of all the discussions about civility and namecalling, and sometimes there does seem to be an informal hatefest-competition going on. You may remember where I stand on all this...TheDukester wrote:Because Kevin J. Anderprick has no imagination.

But the weird thing is, that this quote may actually be just about the single worst piece of criticism I have seen of KJA.
The funny thing is that it is 100% true. Provable, too.
As another funny bonus, he probably would not get why either is the case...

I'm not so much worried about hearing about the nuking of SS as I am the reason KJA comes up with for the nuking.

No, hadn't seen that one yet!
Either way, this is probably much later than the period to be smeared with the steaming bloody piles of the Great Stools.
I think that's pretty much been taken care of, too:Ampoliros wrote:I'm not so much worried about hearing about the nuking of SS as I am the reason KJA comes up with for the nuking.
After that, it would be extremely tedious for him to tell the story in detail, no? Not that he probably won't eventually try.Moritani's eyes flashed. "A Tantor would dare. The Tantors did dare, many centuries ago. When my ancestors were betrayed by Corrinos, backed into a corner and given no choice or chance for survival, they deployed all the atomics of their House and destroyed nearly all life on Salusa Secundus."

Luggage stickers?

Some BIG NAME in scifi in Winds of Dune wrote: Lady Jessica stood in her chamber with the familiar packing wardrobe open before her. Its sides bore the stickers and date stamps of transport authorities, showing the many planets and star systems she had visited since the time she first left Wallach IX as a young woman to become the concubine of Duke Leto Atreides. Jessica had seen a great deal since then, had experienced supreme joy and profound tragedy.

Okay let me get this straight. This Jessica character was working for internal affairs and she had to travel all over the universe to stop the bad guys. Do I have that right?
"Dune can be read on so many different levels. I really get different things out of it every time I read it. You can read it as just a plain old space adventure story, people being stranded on a desert planet that has giant sandworms on it, but you can also read it and get politics and economics out of it."

Sorry, I feel like such an idiot. I can’t keep up with KJA. If they would just throw in a couple of recap pages. You know a little something to help keep the story and characters fresh in the mind.

Gurney stood in his room with the familiar atreides duffle bag open before him. Its canvas sides showing the ware from the many planets and star systems he had visited since the time he was saved by the Duke from the ultra mad Baron on Giedi Prime. Gurney knew all about ultimate terrible suffering at the hands of super evil men.
He packed his favorite lasgun next to his shield generator, he was careful to leave the safety on. Years of training and fighting for the Atreides has made him so. If the lasgun were to discharge while the shield generator was active, the explosion could kill anyone in the blast area not wearing a shield charged to full.
