Subakh ul kuhar

Post by Anudar »

Hello, I'm Anudar, a french Dune fan from the "De Dune à Rakis" message board.
I subscribed a long time ago to Jacurutu but never joined the conversation here. However, I find these days I'm lurking here more and more often, meaning it would probably be better for me to join here. Moreover, I feel now confident enough with my english to do so - even if I will probably mess some phrases up. So please remember english is not my first language.
I own a french-written netblog all about scifi in litterature, comics and movies. You are welcome here.
Outside the Internet, I'm a man, 30-years old (so soon already) and a teacher for high-school pupils (except that in France, we have "first high-school" for pupils between 11 and 14 years old, and "second high-school" for pupils between 15 and 17-18 years old), to whom I'm teaching Biology and Geology. I enjoy scifi, especially space-opera novels.

Now joining the sietch for the cast out... My water is the tribe's.

in fact even if it would still sound wrong it should be VIva Le Jacurutu

Sietch is a masculine noun in French ;)

Vive Le(Sietch)Jacurutu!

Merci mon ami.
See not only do I mess up my language but others as well.

I was thinking 'e' was feminine form as in amie = female friend and ami = male friend.

Well I'm not saying how long ago it was since I took French. :snooty:

Long Live Jacurutu

ow sorry for the confusion :)
you were right as to the "e" being associated with the feminine genre, but I actually kept the expression "viva la" because of its spanish sounding ;) (and the resemblance with B.Margera's Viva la Bam :))
So it really should be
Vive LE (Sietch)Jacurutu!

But even correct it does sound strange
the right wording would be
Vive Jacurutu!

Thanks evereyone !

You can translate "Long live Jacurutu" with "Vive le sietch Jacurutu" or with "Vive Jacurutu" (shorter variant). "Viva" is spanish. By the way (and I found your message when I was done writing mine, DuneFishUK) "merde" is a female noun in french. So you have to write what you've written like this : "KJA est une merde". However, you should be aware this is not something we say in a polite conversation  ...
On the "De Dune à Rakis" (DAR) french-speaking Dune message board, we have some Belgians and Swissmen. In fact, the URL for DAR is http://www.rakis.be" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; !
You could probably expect some other of us here. I think one of my good friends from DAR, Leto, comes here sometimes.

That should be 'une merde'. Shit is feminine in French, but 'turd' is 'un etron', which is masculine. No idea what the French is for 'combover'.

I exist only to demonstrate the laughable pointlessness of GCSEs as a qualification.

I used made up words in my French exam... and they still gave me an A. :P WTF?!

I actually have a policy that if at all possible every single essay I ever hand in (I'm not a student per say, I just take courses at night, just one or two a semester) absolutely MUST include one made up word. Doesn't matter if I get caught or not, it must be done!

They probably thought you were dyslexic. Or maybe what you thought were made up words were real word you'd forgotten you knew.
