The Dune Wiki: The Great Remapping.

There was another thread, but things have changed since then. Yes, the Dune wiki is still full of crapulent preeq filth etc etc etc. But the format has shifted. The canons have been split. The article that got me to register there in the first place, now since the new regime has been implemented:

http://dune.wikia.com/wiki/Bronso_of_Ix" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Not a Vernius, not a Rhombur, not even a Jongleur Muadru Hypno Troubadour to be seen :) Stuff like that makes me happy.

With this change from "all-in-one" to distinct and separate canons/sub-pages I reckon the Dune Wiki has suddenly become credible again. All it needs now is a few good ruthless Fremen to strip any remaining crap out of the old articles and restore and improve them beyond their former glory. - Maybe even incorporate the descriptions project into the existing wiki?

A new and specialised OH wiki would be great, but a phenomenal amount of work has already been put into this one - not just the articles, but the templates, the categories etc etc all of which takes time and effort. And the Dune Wiki was OH up until a few years ago so many of the articles, although they could do with a tinker and a spruce, are perfectly serviceable starting points. :)

That's a good thing - not only because McDune stuff gets isolated from the originals, but I think it could also be interpreted as a sign of acknowledgment that the new books have gone too far and crossed the line.

havent spent much time looking at it, but will on my days off. The character profiles are interesting, but dont want to duplicate anything from the DE, have to research that.

the most recent description of Leto II in GEoD makes all the depictions seem a bit odd. 7 meters in total length (22 ' and 11.59 ) length, with his face being at average man's height(little less than 2 meters) and 2 meters in diameter, weight wise is massive at 5 tons. Him being on the cart would add more height, but not so high that he is in the clouds. My thoughts go towards the possible depiction in a movie, with these very specific dimensions seems doable.

Anyway will check it out.

By the way, Dunenewt over on FED2k would like to ask for assistance with their wiki as well. (I'll post some more details later. Time to hit the futon now, tho!)

I wish they'd do this in the main Wikipedia. The entry for the Golden Path there states that it *ended* with the events of Dune 7.

Wow, it's nice, I kinda like it, especially the background and the fact that nuDune is separate.

Didn't we miss the year anniversary of that place, or have I already declared it dead somewhere? I must be slipping.

Would you mind handing a newcomer a link? So far I've only used the Dune Wiki, the Dune2k.com Wiki and the Dunepedia. I'm always looking to expand my list of Dune-related websites in my bookmarks so. :)

I actually dont have a link to that place any more. It's as dead as a doornail over there.

You're welcome. (But don't blame me, later!)

Yes. And?

I mean, come on, Irulan/Auliya is the web-savvy one, the one who can actually put sites together and design CSS layouts. All The Dilettante of Red Deer can do is spin yarns about skins ... that never seem to materialize.

Of course, it's hard to do anything with your fingers up yer perschwanky and your head shoved up your own ass.

I declared it dead a month after launch ...

I just got this message over on Facebook from Eras Omnius (who also posts sometimes at FED2k):
Hey, SandChig. If you know anyone who is trying to 'hack' my account on DuneWiki, could you ask them to stop?
MotherFUCKER. My reply:
You know, I really don't appreciate the implication in that AT ALL. If you have some REAL reason to think someone is trying to hack into your account, you should take it up with the Wikia administration & staff, not me. Fuck.
I'd bet good money on it NOT being anyone here. I bet even more on him just being fucked in the head and misinterpreting something, since I can't really see how someone who isn't an admin on a website with access to the server logs could tell whether someone was trying to hack an account or not.

Obviously not everyone ages as well as some. I'm starting to get tired of morons.

I'm even more tired since actually logging in on the Dune Wikia and finding this on my Talk Page:
I am a retarded jewsih child who was never loved
Posted anonymously back on September 25 from an IP address in Toronto. Swordmastur, the gift that keeps on giving.

Better yet was the response to the above by the same Eras Omnius (Erasmus2 over there):
"Things"

Hey C'mon, Sandchigger, do you really want to say ethnic "things" like that? You don't at Dune 2k forums. This is place where people like both Original and Expanded Dune.

Obviously he was then totally obvious to the page history function that shows you who made what edits when.

Btw, I hadn't logged in over there for a while and had forgotten my password, so I had to have the wiki send me a new temporary one. I got to thinking that someone probably typed in his name and had it send him a new password, and he took that to be a "hacking" attempt.
Hi,

The login password for user "SandChigger" is now "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX".
If you did not request a new password, don’t worry. The replacement password has been sent only to you at this email address. Your account is secure and you can continue to use your old password.

Thanks,

This guy may brag all he wants about having discussed Dune to death back in the 70s, but I'm starting to think he's a prime candidate for that new group we mentioned the other day: too dumb to be allowed to read/discuss Dune.

If you run out of things to discuss about Dune, you're doing it wrong.

The hacking thing was that SOMEONE blanked Butlerian Jihad/XD (The Expanded Dune Jihad article) using his username.

I think he's cracking - a couple of weeks back he beefed up some tweaks I made to the Discrepancies page :)

Well ... if someone was really using his username/account (and he didn't blank it accidently himself  ), then he has already been hacked and he really needs to report it.

As well as change his password.

See, that's the part that doesn't make any sense. If you go to all the trouble of hacking someone's account, wouldn't you change the password so they couldn't get back in and undo whatever you posted or did as them?

And it still comes down to this: why try to hack him? Is he that active over there now? (I mean, I don't know and really couldn't care less.) Isn't Moss Anus (or whatever) the big player over there now?

Fermenting brainfarts. But what can you expect from a primarily preeq personality.
