torn on the "National Championship" game tonight.

while I am a UT alum (kinda) & a fanboy of Colt McCoy
(he was a 6-man quaterback up the road in Buffalo Gap)
my Southern Spiritual Home has always been Alabama,
and I've been a big follower of the Tide forever.

anyway, main point is that the SEC and Big-12 South
are the only NCAA conferences of any consequence ...

Football (not actual football) speak, it's a language only comprehensible to Americans and certain Canadians (I'm not one unfortunately...).

SEC = Southeastern Excuses Conference.

If Texas wins, the internet will actually break tonight from the sheer volume of excuses that will be offered up by SEC apologists. To these people — and, sadly, there are hundreds of thousands of them — every SEC win is an affirmation of the conference's "elite" nature; every SEC loss is written off as some sort of bizarre aberration. They are, without question, the worst fans in all of sports. I'd rather throw down with some Italian soccer "ultras" than spend an hour with a group of SEC fans.
SandRider wrote:anyway, main point is that the SEC and Big-12 South

I can only assume you mean in some sport other than intercollegiate football. Anyone with eyes can see that the Big 12 South sucked this year.

Quick! Name the only other B12 South team to finish in the final AP Top 25 this year. Hint: it ain't Oklahoma. Second hint: You'll have to look below the 20th spot.

That being said, I'll be cheering heavily for Texas tonight. In a battle between two schools and two groups of fans who are in danger of drowning in their own sense of entitlement, I will choose the lesser of two evils.

Hook 'Em, Horns! Please, please, please ... if you are listening, God ... please help Texas win.

+++++

Interesting historical note: Texas has never lost to Alabama. They've played eight times.

Interesting historical note II: The teams met in 1965 in what was essentially a national championship bowl game. I'm sure even you non-sports heathens here have heard of Joe Namath:

Here you've only got the SEC or ACC, so...

The answer to your question would be Okie Lite.

I am a Big 12 North fan, the rarest of breeds. Big 12 North Football may be irrelevant (aside from the 'Skurs, and don't count Mizzou out yet either), but then there's Basketball, Baseball and Wrestling, in which the North is ably represented.

As to the SEC, fuck 'em all in the ass.

Why not just cheer for a better team from a little further away? I cheer for Brazil in soccer.

I like watching certain sports, but I could care less about "dynasties," "rivalries," "big-game day" and all that BS. Don't you all know that by buying into a commodity this way - and yes, big sports pretty much is a commodity these days - that you are allowing yourselves to become pawns of "Da Man," who only wants to sell you $250 seats, a few hot dogs and a light beer?

What about the teachers, man?

quite obviously, this was a troll-thread aim @ The Duke.

mission accomplished.

Big-12 North is not really a part of the real conference, it's sorta the short school bus.

like the ole miss/miss state/vanderbilt/(sometimes arkansas) special-ed tier of the SEC.

the only excuse I ever make for a poor showing by a SEC team against another Division
is that the kids just didn't want it enough and someone on the team is mired in Sin and
needs to seek the salvation of Jesus. Jesus does in fact love the SEC, but contractually
can't tolerate the Sin, so you get an occasional bad-apple and subsequent bowl-loss.

for instance, it was widely known that several of the Florida players were known to be
masturbating on Friday nights, and combined with the weak moral fiber of the coaching
staff predetermined their denial of another shot at the Championship, even tho they are
in fact (appaently) God's Current Favorite Team. Rules are Rules.

to all furiners: if y'all don't understand what I'm sayin,
I probably ain't talkin to you ....

to Omph: you shut your big dirty mouth.

I knew it was. We've had this discussion before ... :)

But still: the SEC is the living embodiment of the Anti-Christ here on earth. I just can't get behind that. Yet another reason to cheer for Texas.

Plus, all my exes are from Texas.

Go Longhorns! Slay the Anti-Christ!

Hook 'em!!

\m/

How many times has the SEC traveled west of the Mississippi River to play a noncon game against a ranked opponent? Never? SEC fans are the same ones who watch cars drive in circles.

Obscure, but true, trivia fact:

Before traveling west to play Arizona State last year, Georgia had not used an airplane to get to an away game in FORTY years. Forty!

So, yes, it's a valid question. And, for my money, the current big offender is Florida, which steadfastly refuses to play any games of importance outside of its own home state. I'm a pretty big college football fan and I literally cannot remember the last time Florida played a meaningful game outside of the south.

okay, first off-

Duke: You capitalize The South if'n you are speaking of Dixie,
i.e., the Eleven States of the Confederacy, plus Missouri & the Kentucky Orphans.

and any game of any importance to College Football will be played between two
teams from one of these 13 states, so no, there is no reason for Florida to travel
anywhere very damn far.

Spicelon: you are correct, SEC fans are by and large NASCAR fans. your point ?
it's like saying hockey fans are the same ones that watch curling

Duke: the SEC is the embodiment of the Anti-Christ ? And you talk to your momma
with that mouth ? didn't I just explain the Special Relationship between Jesus
& the SEC ? Don't hate on the messenger, son. God Hisself may favor them Hebrews,
but His Boy puts His money on the grandsons of Robert E. Lee.

Most hockey fans don't actually watch curling, I can't speak as to the curling fans watching hockey though.

Curling is Canada's answer to baseball, but more exciting.

HA @ Sandrider! The proverbial SEC broken record response. Anything outside the CSA isn't worth paying attention to, right? Those of us in the USA prefer it like that, really, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

WT Sherman's ground attack was too much for him. 8-)

we wuz cheated.

and Lee was more like a quarterback - the coaches were those assholes in
Richmond, Jeff Davis & John Reagan and those idiots ...

Spicelon wrote:WT Sherman's ground attack was too much for him.
General Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia to U.S. Grant, in double-overtime.
Sherman accepted the surrender of the Army of Tennessee from General Joseph Johnston.

Armies of Lee and Johnston never engaged. Grant beat Lee by running out the clock.
Sherman 45'd Johnston. Lincoln won the whole thing by changing the rules all the time
and bribing the refs. (plus all that illegal recruiting)

anyway ....

I'm not sure what Colt McCoy has done to offend the Little Baby Jesus,
but it must have been bad. Asking forgiveness & a few bars of
"Washed in the Blood" may not suffice, he may have to go Catholic.

Roll Tide.

Props to the Tide. Even with a healthy Colt, Bama's defense was too tough. Looked like it was going to be a game there towards the end. Briefly.
