And I, for one, am thankful of that. :)

I noticed the post was dated Jan 2010.

so in 2010 I resolve

to stop wasting so much goddamn time on meaningless internet bullshit,
message boards & forums, and pointless web jihads on Keith & Glenn Beck,
and the 13 year olds on 4chan and so forth

to watch my goddamn filthy mouth and not use obscene language

to not mix bourbon & prescription opium-based medication

to not shoot General Westbrook in his pompous ass with bird shot
@ the monthly 7th Texas Cavalry muster

to call my sons and tell them how much I love & respect them

to not get arrested downtown on another Public Intox

to never climb another goddamn windturbine in my fucking life

to get laid more

well, here's some bullshit - the company wants me to come off furlough and
go GF a project in Taft, Texas. - which is just north of corpus christi, about
30 miles or so inland, and the little baby jesus knows I loves me some South Texas ...

start date right is first of March - I told them they have to give me an iPad and pay
for the wireless service for the life of the machine, and threw an hourly wage and
per diem about 30% more than the last job at them, and said I'd have to have
full control over the pick of my crews (save the jobs reserved for the corpus local),
and I wanted every climber certified Emergency Tower Descent by Gravitec,
new fucking John Deere backhoes and not the used pieces of Case bullshit, and
the last week of March off for the Fort McKavett re-enactment, and the third
week of April off for the Confederate Reunion Grounds event, and the week of the
Fourth of July off, cause I'm going to Vicksburg this year, and I want the company
to kick an extra 3% into the IBEW annuity for everybody ....

don't even know if they're talking about putting up those big-ass Mitsubishi towers
or what, but if so, I'll have to have a better on-site translator than we had down
at Penascal in 08 - Jap engineers are a pain in the ass. I'm thinking a little college
girl, bout 5 feet tall, 100 pounds, &etc ...

Sandrider, despite your Confederate pride and seeming disenchantment with your job, I think that's some cool ass work you do. Rock on.

I ain't really "disenchanted" (altho more and more I'm convinced wind energy, as we're currently
pursuing it is bullshit - the original outlay and 20 year land leases aren't equaling the profit from
electricity generated - and to actually stop using coal, we'd have to fill every acre in the Great
Plains with turbines. I really like the idea of supplemental power - put ten or twelve big
pretty turbines in the middle of mid-size cities to power their downtown business areas, and I
think all military installations should be generating their own power on-site, &etc)

I'm just getting too old for this shit, I'm ready for full-time retirement. I don't really need the
money - I feel like I just don't have a choice anymore, with my company or the Union. There
are all these fucking expectations of somebody in my position, and I hate being responsible.

I've been doing this wind-farm construction thing for a long time now - I don't there's anyone
in the industry who has more on-site time than I do. There's not a lot that can go wrong on
a project that I haven't already seen & dealt with. (crane too short ? no shit. wind kicked up,
flexed the blades, tapped the tower segment and the thing crumpled like a beer can and fell over ?
no shit. high-potential test blew a splice and killed a cow ? no shit.)

and I'll still have to get in a harness and go up-tower, atleast once on each fucking tower,
to sign off on the work the crews will do. four hundred feet up an aluminum ladder in South Texas
in summer just somehow doesn't sound better than a Lone Star in a pickup truck on the Concho River ....

I'd like to get a small wind turbine and a few solar panels for my house [but] the start up cost is ridiculous. Did I spell that right? :P
