I'm still very proud of The Quarry but … let's face it; in the end the real best way to sign off would have been with a great big rollicking Culture novel.

This got me to wondering where KJAs survival fits in with Mr. Darwins theory, it surley isn't survival of the fittest must be survival of the fecund. pfff the trailer trash are taking over.

We've been keeping the non-fit alive more and more for decades. I think it's weakening our gene pool.inhuien wrote:This got me to wondering where KJAs survival fits in with Mr. Darwins theory, it surley isn't survival of the fittest must be survival of the fecund. pfff the trailer trash are taking over.

You're not contributing to the gene pool so your opinion doesn't count!SandChigger wrote:Welcome! You've just taken your first step toward ... The Killing Fields.

Actually, by not contributing I'm not passing along genes for near-sightedness, baldness, diabetes (no sign yet, but it runs in my mother's family), heart disease, short legs, and excessively hairy nipples.Freakzilla wrote:You're not contributing to the gene pool so your opinion doesn't count!
I could of course make the rounds of the sperm banks, just to fuck with y'all.

I was waiting around the whole movie for the underground geniuses running the whole thing, like in the story. Never came. The ending therefore saddened me.

KJA hasn't reproduced, as far as we know, so I think natural selection is right on track.inhuien wrote:This got me to wondering where KJAs survival fits in with Mr. Darwins theory, it surley isn't survival of the fittest must be survival of the fecund. pfff the trailer trash are taking over.
To be serious for a moment, we can't really tell what's happening to our species in terms of "the weak surviving" or whatever. "fittest" only means "what's required to survive and reproduce in a given environment". Being strong, fast or healthy aren't intrinsically better for survival if there's no need for them. Who knows what the future requires of us?

Hell, you need a license to catch a fish.
