Some of both.

I'm still amazed that people were conned into paying for this crap. It really is nothing more than these ego-bloated "authors" up on a stage going on and on and on. So that part's kind of funny.

But, yes, there's some anger, too. Watching Anderjacket look so smug when he talks about things like "collaborating with others" is enough to make you grind your teeth. You can't help but think that Keith could have saved everyone some time by just standing up and saying: "Here's how you do it. Find a property that's being handled by a brain-dead coward who can be talked into anything. Take it over. Cash the checks."

I really, in all honesty, wonder what Keith had to offer. As we all know, he doesn't even write. His fingers never hit the keys until the "editing" process, when he's also watching DVDs. And people paid to hear him talk about this? What a farce.

Who are the other "superstars" in this photo? I want to know who to drop a couple pegs in my reading list.

Brenden Sanderson on the far left. Eric Flint second in from the right. Not sure about the other two.

That's too bad, I like Eric Flint. I just found out he's an active socialist and in a picture with KJA. He's dead to me as well now.

Active socialist, or active what Americans call socialist?

Just curious. I like to laugh at odd things.

Kevin and Becky will teach you to write for $549

Keith: writing is like hiking, you just put one word after another

Becky: that'll be $549 thank you!

Hmm ... lessee ...er ... yeah, I think I detect some anger there. ;)

Just quoting the man from his biography page on his website. He doesn't list his political views or offer a graph, but he's left of democrat.

Hmm, hard to say then, because even up here in Canada (a country that is in some ways more capitalist than the USA, obviously not in others) pretty much all our parties are left of the US Democrats (even our rightwingnuts on a lot of issues), and there's only one party that even comes close to socialism.

I'd say we should ask him... but I don't know who he is, or care!

Just listened to a few seconds of one of the clips, enough to hear Rebecca say "Some of you may think that writing is an art form, but what it really is for all of you sitting there is... a business" in her lovely creaky "I deep-throated a frog before this lecture and that's why I sound like this: amphibian semen" voice, and that was enough.

FUCK that. I got better things to listen to & do.

What's tragic about her quote there is that she flat out contradicted what FH said about writing. We all knew it, but she succinctly highlighted the difference between the sequels and originals.

I am not surprised but there you have it, that's the nexus point of all our troubles, these people do not believe in art, only in money...

Or maybe she meant it in a different way?

Found this in the Willis transcript.

FH: My chief concern is to tell a good story. It really is.

Did anything like that make it into the superstars of writing dialog? I'd look myself but, like watching the news, it'll just piss me off.

LOL. In the beginning of a copy of Heretics I have in front of me:

When I was writing Dune

...there was no room in my mind for concerns about the book's success or failure. I was concerned only with the writing. Six years of research had preceded the day I sat down to put the story together, and the interweaving of the many plot layers I had planned required a degree of concentration I had never before experienced...Looking back on it, I realize I did the right thing instinctively. You don't write for success. That takes part of your attention away from the writing. If you're really doing it, that's all you're doing: writing...

yeah, it's sad ...

just the other day I was compelled (again) to toss out that "I don't talk about what I'm currently writing,
you put the same energy into the book" thing from one of Frank's interviews .....

I guess Spanky McDune is just alot smarter and a better writer than Frank ...

hell, he's Homer, for the love of God ...

I have no doubt that KJA is up to the creative challenge of preeqing this into its opposite, in his own mind.

Form is a guideline.

Formula is a crutch for those who are to lazy to master form.
That is all the workshop was about, to give one a"formula" to success. In the hands of a master, a formula becomes something more than its parts.

In the hands of a hack, formula becomes the crutch that they must support in order to justify the lies they tell themselves to suppress reality.
